nearbeer (5748) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 20, 2017
650 ml. with an annoying plastic wax coating. Pours opaque with a lasting film of light brown cream. Nose is booze, dark bread, cookie dough and a bit of coffee. Flavors of caramel, toasted dark bread, whiskey, barrel, soy and espresso. Maybe hints of oats and berry as well. Heavy body is smooth with low-medium carbonation and has a decent balance, but shows a little more booze than expected at 8.8% abv. MelvinKalksma (1942) - NETHERLANDS - FEB 2, 2017

Heavy aroma of malts, caramel, wood, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, mocha, roasted malts and coffee.
Opaque black beer with a slight/medium brown head.
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, wood, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and mocha; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and coffee.
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. What a super subtle bourbon flavour, creating a perfect balance with the roasted malts already present. Some of the dark fruit and molasses flavours from the original are lost for me, but it is still amazing; especially for its abv.
Bottle split at Hackobock Tasting, Islington, thanks to Kenny 24/11/16.
Black with a moderate tan cap.
Nose is chocolate, roasted malt, spice, charr, dark fruit rinds.
Taste comprises toffee, chocolate, dark malts, light spice, subtle bourbon, coffee, earthy fruits, molasses.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light rising booze thread.
Solid BA impy, good balance and easy to drink.

Dark chocolate and smooth malts cream. Tangy smooth bourbon soaked fruits. A little vanilla. Airy semi dry finish. Smooth but very drinkable.
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2016 November 2016 - Bottle share at CBC Islington. Big thanks to Kenny! As ’Caldera Old Growth Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout’. Opaque black with a foamy brown head. Aroma is a bit vegetal up front but this dissipates quickly, settles on chocolate and vanilla, twiggy woody notes. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is molasses and chocolate, rich malts, moves to ash, earth and spice in the finish, also salty or piney. Pretty good in the round. (3.8)
