Multiple samplings reveal a beer that is always - always - full of butter. Caley 80 is a modest bitter, already malty in character. Caledonian can’t keep the butter out of their beers, however, and it is very noticeable in this product, which in most instances fails to even live up to the most modest standards of drinkability. A full pint of Caley 80 is invariably a challenge even I cannot best. patrick767 (4063) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - JUL 10, 2010
cask at The Malt Shovel in Edinburgh - Pours mostly clear amber with a small, white, lingering head. There’s a mild aroma of caramel malt. The flavor is also of caramel malt with fairly minimal hops presence. It’s light to medium bodied and while okay, they haven’t exactly put the "bitter" in this bitter. hayduke (5572) - Eureka, California, USA - JUL 3, 2010
From a hand pulled cask at the Kings Wark in Edinburgh, Scotland. This had a rich amber color with a medium off-white head and thick glue like lacing rings. Nose of caramel malt, with some rope fruit. Heavy malt body and smooth mouthfeel with low carbonation. Flavor is malty with some citrus in the finish and some bitterness. Solid and easy drinking bitter.
