Clear dark amber with a nice fizzy, lacy, disappearing beige head. Smells of sweet caramel malt, light roast, and dry bread. Medium oily body. Sweet taste of malt, nut and caramel with notes of straw and a bitter acidic hop finish. Very average bitter with general good qualities but nothing much to stand out.

Cask at The Reginald Mitchell, Hanley (JDW) Called Caledonian Edinburgh Castle. A clear deep amber colour with a frothy off white head. Aroma of caramel, lightly roasted malts, nuts, some red fruit and slight spicy hops. Taste of caramel, toffee, lightly roasted malts, some nuts, slight red fruits, a little smoke, a hint of coffee and subtle spicy hops. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A bittersweet, malty bitterness in the finish. Quite sweet but with enough roasted malts and hops to make it drinkable. Basic Scottish bitter but decent.

Cask at the Ledger Building, Canary Wharf, 23/01/16 as Edinburgh Castle. Golden with a moderately appointed off white covering that thins to spotting. Nose is straw, airy malts, faint citric rinds, caramel. Taste comprises pale malts, bread dough, light orange, grains. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close. Mediocre offering, lacks any real flavour.
