2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in January 2013. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale copper in colour with a thin off white head. Strong note of sulphur in the long aroma. Thin but smooth mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malt base gives a sweet biscuit flavour with a hint of toffee but little else though. Earthy wet loam notes from the hop resins in the brief aftertaste. Finish is slightly malty with a sweet edge which rapidly runs out of legs. Lacking in depth and range of flavour. This is a poor addition to the Caledonian portfolio and one to miss.
JDW Waterhouse, Manchester 22 Jan 13. Mørk gylden. Lavt, litt farget skum. Teppelacing. God søt karamellaroma. Antydning til frukt. Smaken er litt syrlig karamell.

Cask at the Gate Clock, JDW - Greenwich, London. Pours clear, golden-brown with a creamy white cap. Nose of dry, semi-dark fruits, toast, brown bread. Medium sweet flavor with lightly toasty leaves and twigs, sugary brown bread, faint toffee, light earth. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Fairly sweet to finish, some toasty sugars, light dry bread, leaves, mellow caramel. Simple and tasty bitter. allmyvinyl (10929) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - FEB 16, 2013
Pint at the brewery. Lots of good toffee flavours, touch of butterscotch and low hops - which fitted well for the style (unlike some of their other beers... ahem...) . The only beer of theirs I would drink more than one of. BeerCast_Rich (1906) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - FEB 8, 2013
[cask at the Caledonian Brewery, Edinburgh] Another deep mahogany beer from the Caley, poured at their brewery bar in Slateford. Decent white head, looks inviting. The aroma is soft toffee and caramel, with some roasted malt edge on the nose as well. Flavours are similar, although the flavour gets progressively drier as you go – normally beers from the Caley go in the other direction. I’m not a fan of the sweet caramelly house style – but this is refreshingly different. Finishes roasty and dry, I had another one straight away Rune (13355) - Tromsø, NORWAY - FEB 2, 2013
Half pint, cask at JDWs Waterhouse in Manchester. Nice appearance with a nitro cream, white head to a clear golden-brown coloured body. Carpeted lacing to the glassware. Aroma is subdued and jam-like. Caramel and marmalade taste leading to a decent bitter ending. Foamy in the mouth. Fine bodied. Likable (22.01.2013).

Cask, gravity dispensed, at the Stag and Hounds, Binfield.Reddish chestnut with a ring of translucent head; slightly spicy aroma; soft and malty with lots of caramel; followed by a gentle bitterness. Full bodied and satisfying without being too heavy. leaparsons (10696) - Wigston, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - JAN 27, 2013
Cask, The Highcross, Leicester. Dark brown with a firm cteam foam. Aromas are weetabix and raisins with toffee and bonfire. Soapy citrus and low woody pine. Flavours are very sweet malts with brown sugar and raisins. Bready yeast with some citrus to finish. Not bad. JohnRMurdoch (4999) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - JAN 26, 2013
Cask @ Camperdown Place JDW. Medium brown with an orange hue, reasonable head. Sour oaty malt aroma. Straw malt flavour. Sour biscuit fruity aftertaste. A not very nice bitter from Caledonian. MTLawrence (10) - West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JAN 26, 2013
Smell is not awful, but is unappealing - reminiscent of some of the lower quality pubs I’ve frequented. Buy from there iyr gets better: the colour is a deep mahogany (perfect for cold, snowy evenings); the texture is velvety and creamy; and the taste is clean and pleasant.
