COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cali Colsch is a continental mash-up. We ferment California grown base malt with Kolsch yeast from Cologne, Germany. The malt shines through with hints of wheat and fresh barley. The yeast adds levels of complexity and notes of peach and pear, similar to the finish of a white wine. American and European noble hops give our beer an assertive hop character while still keeping it drinkable. A sessionable beer to enjoy in sun or shade alike. Pair with light or creamy cheese, fruits and salad, chicken or seafood.

Bottle split at Hackobock Tasting, Islington, thanks to (name withheld) 24/11/16. Very lightly hazed golden blonde with a decent off white covering. Nose is light citric peel, grains, straw, bready pang. Taste comprises toasted grains, wheat, lemon drool, straw, grass, bread dough, pale malts. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough for style.

Grand tasting at Craft Islington with Hackobock. Thanks to Fergus. Almost clear gold beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is soft and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Fluffy pale malts, some grain showing. Light creamy sweetness and malt tang. Touch of paper. Whisper of dried fruits. Dry finish. No room for error with a Kolsch and this is a bit of a mess.

November 2015 - Bottle share at CBC Islington. Thanks Fergus! As ’Calicraft Cali Cöast Kölsch’. Amber orange, hazy, still, huge foamy white head. Aroma is apple, straw, wheaty, stewed apple. Body is frothy with tingly carbonation. Taste is thin, some muted apple, thin wishy-washy malts, touch of green banana. Pretty basic stuff. (2.7)

Bottle shared at the Hackobock tasting at Craft Islington. Cheers! It pours hazy golden with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is soft, white bread, plenty of sweetness, green vegetables, grain, glue and marker pen. The taste is crisp, dry, white bread, plenty of glue, permanent marker pen, paint, cereal and some sweet apple. Medium body and moderate carbonation. That gluey vibe is really putting me off.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2017 a style I’m usually not a fan of, but this is a cool, if not traditional, example. A touch fruitier than expected - pear? - with a grainy flavor and nose, and a crisp finish.

Fatehunter (2585) - Corbett, Oregon, USA - SEP 6, 2015
Pours a finger and a half of head on a hazy light straw body. The aroma is mild fruits. The taste is mild lemon and grapefruit bitter, a little pear and apple sweetness. The texture is softer. Fine.

loubar (157) - Los Gatos, California, USA - MAY 16, 2015
22 oz. bottle from Whole Foods. Starts with a pleasant, pale bready malt forward taste. Hops add balance, offsetting the crisp grain character and providing some dryness to the finish. Clean, refreshing aftertaste. Well balanced, crisp and super drinkable.
