Im Zuge der Gegenreformation rief der bayer. Kurfrst Maximilian I. Paulanermnche in sein Land.

Donkerbruin rode kleur, kraag is snel weg.

Bottle, BB 10.11.2016. Pours darkish caramelly brown with creamy white head that fizzes away rather fast. Caramelly and nutty malts in the aroma. Hintingly alcoholic. Tastes caramelly sweet with a bit of alcohol showing. A tad plummy maybe. Thin fizzy carbonation, medium body, sticky on the palate. An easy Doppelbock, not among the most enjoyable or complex ones Ive had. But not bad.

After drinking the "Heller Bock" from the same brewery I had high hopes for the "Mastrobator". Pours brown from the bottle with a crown that soon disappears. Lots of visible swimmers; this looks more like soup. The aroma is lightly caramel; I did not pick up the chocolate notes the bottle mentioned. The taste is strongly caramel, with chocolate, and finishes with a gentle sweet plum sourness. Warming, dry, a bit alcoholic on the swill. Pleasant enough, but I had trouble making a judgement about this one. Maybe its innately wrong to be drinking bock beers at the height of summer. Decent stuff, but I enjoyed the Heller Bock more.

Butelka 0,33. Aromat piernika, karmelu w smaku zdecydowanie toffi.

Smooth malty beginning. Fresh, sticky and quite malty sweet. The body is full but a bit sweetish-caramelized without too much bitterness. Smooth and sweetish aftertaste, sugary caramelly, sticky and full-bodied. Interesting.

Couleur ambre sombre, belle mousse beige.

330ml bottle bought at HK Brewcraft in Central.

Cloudy hazy ruby brown colour with a thin trace of yeast sediments; One quarter finger head and residual soapy white foam which fades in 15 seconds; Fairly good sticky lacing with very slight carbonation; Fragrant and sweet aroma of dark malt, with strong caramel, chocolate, toffee, strong plums, raisins, strong brown sugar, alcohol, bread, light yeast, thin lemon and light grass; Mid to strong sweet taste of dark malt, with strong caramel, toffee, chocolate, strong coffee sugar, alcohol, light yeast, light lemon and light bitter grassy hops; Mid to light body. Thin and boozy palate; Mouth feel is fair dark maltyness in a very watery background. Lots of caramel, toffee and chocolate. Dark fruits are very light. Sweetness is fairly strong with notable booze. Light bready and lemon to round. Okay Hoppiness is thin lemon and light grass in nose, a bit strong in taste. Bitterness is fairly light with liquorices for an abrupt, light astringent sweet caramel finish; Quite dry after taste. Sweet and boozy to mouth.

Comments: This one aroma is more impressive - caramel and chocolate and dark fruits abound, but the body is too thin and taste is monotone and a tad too boozy. Okay to drink but not something special.
