Once again the brewers at CBC have thrown caution to the wind in our latest annual effort to create the biggest, baddest, strongest, bestest beer around. Double-mashed with nearly a ton of malt, five different hops, and cold-aged several months with French Limousine oak, this extraordinary, complex ale boasts flavors and aromas of caramel, dried fruit, vanilla, oak, toffee, spicy hops, and a warming alcohol finish. Very rich and full-bodied, it is unfiltered and unfined. This unique beer will be available all winter, served for your admiration and enjoyment in a 9oz. snifter.

GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - MAY 4, 2009
Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear medium to dark orange color. The head was off white and left some lace on the glass. The aroma consisted of some light buttery toffee, a whiff of dark fruits, and distinct oak. Medium bodied, perhaps lightened up a bit by the 11.7% ABV. Sticky in the mouth and semi-sweet. Pleasant flavor profile that included layers of honey, toffee, buttery caramel, subdued vanilla, and flowery hops. Good stuff.

Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - FEB 23, 2009
Draft at EBF. Pours a copper amber with a white head. Light chewy fruits, pear and plum. Oak, toffee and hints of cherry. Lightly woody with a moderate alcohol warming. A spiced note to round it out.

ElDuderino (184) - Hyde Park, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 29, 2009
2005 Vintage on tap at CBC at the 2009 Barleywine Festival. Body is a dark cloudy caramel color with almost no head. Smells like old dish water, dried plums and orange soda. Pallate was watery and flat with very little carbonation left, and just traces of alcohol on my lips. Flavors of maple syrup, red wine reductions and dried apricots and plums are most prevalent. Nice balance and really a welcome and desirable aftertaste with some roasted malty notes that linger.

bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - FEB 20, 2008
(Draught) Pours a clear copper body with a small bubbly head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, toffee, peach, and vanilla. Flavor of caramel malt, grapefruit rind, and honey.

GriffinAvenue (396) - Winchester, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 16, 2008
Draft. Copper coloring. Clear, still waters. Light, sporadic soapy head on the rim. Aromatic, hoppy, orange-peel, dates . . . very pleasing. Flavoring mirror the aroma with spices and fruity notes physically dancing on the tongue. Smooth finish, warm fuzzies from the alcohol level. it’s clearly present but not overpowering. Very nice - a quality barleyine.

scraff (2121) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - DEC 12, 2007
Tap @ CBC - Deep hazed orange, creamy off white head. Deep rich nose of dried fuzzy fruit, vanilla, oak, and bourbon sit upon toffee brittle notes and hints of coconut cotton candy. Brown sugared bourbon and spiced peach flavors round into soft vanilla wood-like notes. A light hop bitterness in the end truly provides balance to the full richness. Medium to full-bodied, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Fantastic execution of the barrel here. Should have grabbed a growler, but two snifters (plus other beers) rendered me silly…

Zeswaft (1775) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 15, 2007
served in a snifter. pretty close to being one of those overwhelming alcohol BWs. Not much hops. a fair amount toffee malt, and, needless to say, a noticeable amount of alcohol

2beerguys (299) - North Shore, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 14, 2007
Dark cherry colored body with fizzy, off-white head. Fair lacing. Active body. Aroma is of sweet malts, but not enough to mask the strong scent of alcohol. Initial taste is heavily sweet, tempering to a moderately sweet finish with an average duration. Medium on the mouth, it has a creamy texture with moderate carbonation. The alcohol jumps out of the glass and smacks you. Reviewed on January 20th, 2007.

jcwattsrugger (12500) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - FEB 11, 2007
