GABF 2004. Clear copper body. Sweet nose of toffee, maple syrup, vanilla, and a touch of smoke. Woody and considerably sweet. Mouthfeel is somewhat syrupy. A good, solid barley wine all-around. DrGonzo (625) - Somerville, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 14, 2004
Tap at the brewpub. Nice hoppy and malt aroma. Well balanced, hop bit and warm caramel, buttery. So drinkable yet so strong, most refined of their brews, probably their best as well, and overall a great barleywine. Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 20, 2004
UPDATED: FEB 15, 2004 On tap at the brewpub: Red/orange color, brown sugar aroma, full slick mouthfeel, and sweet and heavy. No score change. Extreme Beer Fest 2004: Clear orange color with a large off-white head. Caramel and molasses in the aroma, full bodied. Starts and ends sweet with a slight sour note at the end that is quickly enveloped by bitterness. dirtymike (2016) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 20, 2004
Extreme Beer Fest '04, Copper in color with a small white head.Sweet and bitter, hoppy, dry malt finish. omnivore (270) - San Francisco, California, USA - MAR 28, 2003
Colored a beautiful ruby brown. Sweet and malty aroma with a distinct hops smell, very pleasing to the nose. Heavily malty flavor. Thick and sweet with a hoppy bitter leave. Drink it from a snifter to get the most pleasure for the nose (as well as feeling all sophisticated).
