Pitch black, small white head. Served too cold. Sweet vanilla, dark fruity aroma with chocolate and dark malts. Medium to full bodied. Bourbon, sweetness, alcohol, raisins, some bitterness. Lots of bourbon. Sipping beer. Good.
Pours a clear copper colored with faint lacing white head. Aroma is heavy with sweet dark fruits, esters, and a slight hint of warming booze. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a medium body. Overall great barleywine and very enjoyable. kevinsenn (2209) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - APR 9, 2015

Sampled at the Extreme Beer Fest. Pours a dark amber color. Aroma of fruits, malt, caramel and alcohol. Flavor of fruits, caramel, malt and alcohol, bitter finish. Light body, liquorous texture. GABF 2006. Amber bodied. Nose is caramel, sweet malts, light hops and alcohol. Taste consists of more caramel, light toffee, hint of honey, alcohol, overripe fruits and light hops. Body is slick and medium-full. Light carbonation. Finishes with more caramel, fruits, sweet malts, and light hops. Not bad!

Dark cherry colored body with fizzy, off-white head. Fair lacing. Active body. Aroma is of sweet malts, but not enough to mask the strong scent of alcohol. Initial taste is heavily sweet, tempering to a moderately sweet finish with an average duration. Medium on the mouth, it has a creamy texture with moderate carbonation.
The alcohol jumps out of the glass and smacks you.

Draft at EBF. Pours a copper amber with a white head. Light chewy fruits, pear and plum. Oak, toffee and hints of cherry. Lightly woody with a moderate alcohol warming. A spiced note to round it out. MIBRomeo (2570) - Wisconsin, USA - OCT 2, 2006
rich copper & brown color w/ a small tan head laces well. Aroma is alcohol & light carmels some light odd fuggle maybe hop aromas. Creamy well coated palate. Warm swallow very sweet english stype bw w/ a hot hop bite of grass that fades quickly and leaves a bit of a bitter tongue. Solid BW but seemed to be lacking something to me. 2005 Vintage on tap at CBC at the 2009 Barleywine Festival. Body is a dark cloudy caramel color with almost no head. Smells like old dish water, dried plums and orange soda. Pallate was watery and flat with very little carbonation left, and just traces of alcohol on my lips. Flavors of maple syrup, red wine reductions and dried apricots and plums are most prevalent. Nice balance and really a welcome and desirable aftertaste with some roasted malty notes that linger.
