Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, sweet fruity - malt, dark malt, candy notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.
Bottle from Kris Wines, London. Pitch black beer with a nice beige/brownish head. Malty chocolate aroma, roasted, cocoa powder, vanilla notes, caramel, licorice, toffee, raisins, biscuits, violet, peach and some berries. Fruity roasted flavor, raisins, vinous, caramel, chocolate. Thin bodied and a little disappointment after the great aroma. FatPhil (16102) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 27, 2012
Cask (CWAF2012, Fri)leaparsons (10546) - Wigston, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 14, 2007
My first moonshine of the year, and my-oh-my has this brewery finally got everything together after a couple of disappointments last year. Such a full roast, with dark berries, and just a corner of real black burntness. Taste is gloriously mellow for how rich the roast is. There’s no astringency. No sign of any alcohol here, or even attempts to cover alcohol with sugars. Amazingly, I got to this after it was tipped, and to be honest it was a little on the flat side - I’m sure this would have been stunning yesterday. Bonzer, Mark - I look forward to many more like this!
Cask, Leicester Fest 07. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aromas are earthy roast coffee with liqourice and dark chocolate. Flavours are good bitter roast coffee with sweet malts in the background. Bitter dark chocolate and liqourice. Has a good roast finish. Very good. DJMonarch (9179) - Northwich, Cheshire, ENGLAND - JAN 22, 2006

Cask-conditioned at the Cambridgeshire & Lincolnshire Beeriodical, at the Seven Stars, Bristol, August 2012. Jet back with a slight, off-white head. Big chunky chocolate note, some liquorice and plenty of roastiness throughout. A very good stout. chriso (7533) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 12, 2004
An intense black, rich, coffee accented stout. As others have noted, licorice, roast malt and bitter chocolate are also in evidence. Sumptuous, smooth, mouthfeel. Excellent stuff that bodes well for this new brewery. Cask (gravity dispense) at St Albans Beer Festival 2004.

A Mes rate: Cask at The Wenlock.
Black and opaque with a thin rim of tan foam. Superb aroma of chocolate, liquorice, coffee maltiness and some lightly sour and delicately hoppy notes. Flavour follows on in the same vein. Lovely chocolate, more hops than you would usually expect and a lovely slightly sour finish with great length. Lovely mouthfeel. A glorious stout.
