COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You want an IPA, you’ve got one, but with a twist. “Spring Training” breezes in like a breath of fresh air, ready to awaken your senses from a long, cold winter. Made from primarily Canadian pale malts, the recipe also incorporates Belgian carapils, aromatic and wheat malts to contribute to the beer’s complex body and straw-golden color. Ahtanum and Palisades hops were chosen for their essence of wildflowers and freshly-cut grass and to present a contrast to the piney, earthy and resiny characteristics of most IPAs. But don’t worry that these “pretty” hops won’t deliver a strong punch-in addition to extensive kettle hopping the beer is dry-hopped with 10 lbs of Ahtanums to blast your senses away.

Aroma is complex hops, with tropical fruit and dark fruit/grapes in there. The flavor is tropical fruit, mild dark fruit, malts, hops/hop resin and a dryish/increasingly bitter finish.

A so so IPA. Again within freshness date but not too aromatic or hoppy. Herbal and grassy w light citrus, moderate bitterness, touch of cardboard.

650 ml. Hazy golden topaz body has a disc of bubbles on top. Nose is orange and dark toffee. Tastes of dark caramel, earthy orange, a touch of dry cocoa. Long drying bitter of resin and sourish citrus zest. Longer finish shows some minty green herb and a bit of booze. Near-medium body is a little too fizzy for my tastes. Lightly astringent and definitely to the dry side.

Pours a clear golden with a small white head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of nice hops, not too intense but clean and of alcohol, surprisingly. Taste is lightly sweet and moderate bitter and offers perfume and fruit flavors. Body was medium, carbonation too. Overall a fair IPA, not something I would seek again though.

On tap @ Cambrige Brewing Co.

Appearance: Clear golden with a small white head and little to no lacing.

Aroma: Grainy, herbal, a bit hoppy but not that much, citrusy notes and quite malty for the style.

Taste: Herbal, spices, malty but not that much it’s just that hops doesn’t takes much place so the malt is hard to miss and very light bitterness.

Palate: Medium body. A lot of small bubbles gives a moderate-medium carbonation. Prickly. Spicy and caramel finish.

Overall: Subpar IPA. Especially disappointing on the aromatic aspects. Not a malty-spicy profile that I like in that kind of beer.
