Keg; Special.
James and Pete paired up for Gentleman’s Wit (4.3% ABV). The inspiration, other than loving the zesty spiciness of wit, lies somewhere between a plate of lemon meringue pie and a cup of Earl Grey tea. James roasted 20 lemons covered in bergamot for 20 hours until they were juicy, fragrant, caramelised and sharp. The beer was made with a classic recipe and yeast strain with the lemons bombing into the whirlpool at the end of the brew.
It’s turned out as one of the most incredible beers we’ve brewed. The colour is as beautiful as a beer can get: a hazy, unfiltered warm pastel yellow. The lemon and bergamot poke through the aroma, a hint of sharpness cuts through the middle, it’s dry and interesting and quenching and a dry, phenolic spice ends the mouthful like a full stop ends a sentence.

A light, lemony wheat beer basically, fairly tasty, without being a particular knock out.

A dry, citric nose with an element of cedar wood to it. A touch of soap and a very light and soft body to it. That soap ones is unfortunate. It sets the beer back a bit for me.

Bleak yellow with almost no head. Citrus in the smell and typical wheat taste. Low carbonation.

Bottle. Hazy hay yellow liquid with small white head. Aroma of bubble gum, earl grey, lemon peel, earthy wheat, white pepper and bread. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of earth, earl grey, pepper and bread. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Ok but a bit weird. Samuel thinks it smells like sushi.

August 18, 2013 - on draught at Cask Pub & Kitchen (Pimlico). Hazy pale gold with a decent off-white fizzy head. Aroma - mmmm, tree fruit, cardamon and bergamot - really good, the bergamot really hides a fair amount of background sweetness nicely. Taste - really smooth and balanced (herbal bitterness and pear sweetness) - quite floral and no alcohol to detract. Average body, dry, decent carbonation ... starts soft and fruity/malty and finishes floral and a little bitter - well done.

ClubGonzo (5670) - Bergen, NORWAY - AUG 18, 2013
Bottle. Pours a milky straw yellow body with a medium white head. Aroma is lemon, straw, herbs, coriander and hints of wheat and pale malts. Taste is lemon, grains, herbs, coriander, citric peel, hints of herbs and wet grass. Medium body and carbonation. Decent wit for sure.
