Keg; Special.
James and Pete paired up for Gentleman’s Wit (4.3% ABV). The inspiration, other than loving the zesty spiciness of wit, lies somewhere between a plate of lemon meringue pie and a cup of Earl Grey tea. James roasted 20 lemons covered in bergamot for 20 hours until they were juicy, fragrant, caramelised and sharp. The beer was made with a classic recipe and yeast strain with the lemons bombing into the whirlpool at the end of the brew.
It’s turned out as one of the most incredible beers we’ve brewed. The colour is as beautiful as a beer can get: a hazy, unfiltered warm pastel yellow. The lemon and bergamot poke through the aroma, a hint of sharpness cuts through the middle, it’s dry and interesting and quenching and a dry, phenolic spice ends the mouthful like a full stop ends a sentence.

Keg, Liverpool Craft Beer Expo, Camp & Furnace. Hazy yellow looks with a small white head. Banana and clove notes in the nose. Flavour was a little sweet and has some juicy citrus and spice alongside wheat and yeast notes. Full smooth mouthfeel. For some reason far better than anticipated. A tasty interpretation of the style.

ALLOVATE (3063) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - OCT 28, 2014
Bottle @ Graincru Carpark Brewday 2014.
Produces up a palest straw, misty and with fine conditioning. Head is a lacklustre ring of white not serviced at all by the bubbles coming to atmosphere. Soft, lemon balm, Belgian pale candi, yeasty bready funk, boiled rice and damp, river moss (?) pose the aroma. Sour, tart, a little drabby and quite flabby on the palate. It is light bodied but sits a little heavy. Wheat malt dominates and adds a chalkiness to it. Little in the way of clean phenols. Candi, yeasty mid-palate. Lemon hits but the bergamot is a little askew, which is a shame as its oils are generally quite rotund and fragrant. A style I attempt to like but deep down begrudge, so I’m doing my best to shake hands with this one. This is drinkable and to style - unsure if that was their intention - but it’s not for me! Nocturne (1992) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - OCT 23, 2014
Keg at Pi, Altrincham. Hazy blonde shade with a short white head. No lacing. Aroma is grassy, lemony and a touch herbal too. Lemony, almost salty taste. Slightly dry and tart finish. Plenty of carb. This isn’t my favourite style but it’s nicely refreshing.

Cerveza de color dorado amarillo con una espuma blanca delgada. Aroma a limón, especias y té, sabor fuerte y picante. El regusto es cítrico y luego se suaviza en cremosidad suave. Cerveza muy agradable.
