James and Pete paired up for Gentleman’s Wit (4.3% ABV). The inspiration, other than loving the zesty spiciness of wit, lies somewhere between a plate of lemon meringue pie and a cup of Earl Grey tea. James roasted 20 lemons covered in bergamot for 20 hours until they were juicy, fragrant, caramelised and sharp. The beer was made with a classic recipe and yeast strain with the lemons bombing into the whirlpool at the end of the brew.
It’s turned out as one of the most incredible beers we’ve brewed. The colour is as beautiful as a beer can get: a hazy, unfiltered warm pastel yellow. The lemon and bergamot poke through the aroma, a hint of sharpness cuts through the middle, it’s dry and interesting and quenching and a dry, phenolic spice ends the mouthful like a full stop ends a sentence.

330 ml bottle from Redmonds. Watery, pale yellow, decent foamy white head. Really pale in colour. Coriander, sherbet, lemon, zest and pithy notes on the nose, bit of a slightly unpleasant basement yeast tang in there too. Flavour is pretty flat, some lemon, spritzy citrus. Palette is light, bright and really refreshing. Short finish with more lemony notes.

(Keg at Woolshed, 20140426) The beer poured yellow and quite cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had coriander, grass and fruitiness. Palate was light bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were coriander, fruitiness, sweetness, grass and low bitterness. Aftertaste had citricness, coriander and low bitterness. A weak watery Witbier.

Tap (Woolshed, Helsinki)
Slightly enteric wheaty aroma, gentle sharp orangy spice. Wheatier in the taste, in fact it’s enormously wheaty. Boring palate, just a chuggable crisp beer. Would happily drink this in a live music venue if everything else was macro crap.

RexTalionis (3731) - FINLAND - APR 25, 2014
Draught. Hazy pale yellow in color with a small whitish head. Light hints of spicyness, some wheat and citrus in aroma. Also some summer meadow and floral notes are present. Notes of citrus and wheat as well in taste. Chewy mouthfeel. Coriander spicyness in aftertaste. Refreshing.

zacgillbanks (5128) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - APR 21, 2014
Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. This is a hazy pale straw coloured beer with lemon and sage (bergamot?) flavours, floral fruity notes and a creamy zesty, tart fruity finish.

sunevdj (4084) - Copenhagen OE, DENMARK - APR 19, 2014
On tap at BA2, Malmo. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a white head. Smells of orange marmalade. Sweet and sour with lots of orange peel aromas. Also some notes of Belgian yeast. Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Dry finish. Tastes of orange marmalade.

joergen (27984) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 19, 2014
Draught at Bishops Arms Savoy. Cloudy golden colored with a small white head. Sweet and fruity aroma of wheat, orange peel and spices. Fruity flavor of orange peel and hops. Fruity and citric finish.

From keg at Camden brewery pub. Drunk from weissbier glass, pale straw colour, thin head. Quite a lot of flavour considering the low alcohol percentage, fresh.
