COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the town of Bamberg, home of smoked beers, the Bishop would not grant citizens any land to construct a town hall. The resourceful and crafty townsfolk rallied and rammed piles into the river to create an island, on which they built their castle. Our German Rauchbier is equally ingenious. Made from pale barley smoked with beech wood, this town hall of beverages has a smoky sweet aroma and hints of candied bacon.

[8973-20170114] Tap. Roasted smoked grains aroma. Clear, light brown cola brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Bitter grainy eggshell flavour has a noticeable but light smoke. Medium body. Good, simple. (6/3/7/3/13) 3.2

Clear mahogany colour, small head. Mild charkuterie smoke aroma. Mid dry with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Some bread and caramel, distinct beechwood smoke. Fairly low bitterness. Really nice flavours, but needs polishing and malt depth.

From tap. Pours amber to brown with a small off white head. Smoked. Meaty. Beechwood. Lingering malty and smoked. Subdued sweetness. Bitter and smoked far finish.

4oz sample from a flight. Dark brown brew with a thin creamy head. The nose has a little chocolate malt and smoke. Taste is roasty and chocolatey, caramel, light smoke. Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with this one, needed more smoke and less sweetness.

473ml tallboy from LCBO. Pours an average size frothy beige head and has a dark amber coppery appearance. Some sticky lacing. Subtle smokey aromas, light roasted malts, hints of vanilla. Flavours roasted barley malts, smokey, earthy and resin hops, some hints of dry fruit. Has a bit of a watery mouthfeel, but also a bit slick and oily.

2017-01-14. Dark amber brown body, modest beige head. 3+ Aroma is quite earthy and smokey. Muted sweet malt and caramel. Flavour is less prominently smokey but has moderate earthy smoke throughout, lightly sweet malt base, caramel accents. Average bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Decent despite not really being to my own tastes. 6/3/6/3/14 On tap at Crafty Coyote, Toronto/I>

[Can (500ml)] Pours a deep dark amber-copper with a large semi-lasting frothy tan head. Nice aroma of smoke and caramel malt along with some light sugary sweetness. Flavour’s the same: Some caramel malt and light smoke, a bit sweet as well, and with just a hint of cocoa & coffee in the finish. Average to medium bodied. Surprisingly pretty good, I liked it.

Draft. Brown red body and a small white head. The aroma is more malty than smoky and the flavor isn’t deep or even smoky. More smoke in the finish though.
