Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate malt and rum aroma. Medium to heavy sweet roasted malt and alcohol flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a solid beer.

Dark opaque colour, with a small brown head that does not last much and leaves a small lace. Aroma of chocolate, red and dark fruitls, licorice, wood, hints of rum. Creamy a bit bitter palate, medium body. Taste is sharper than the aroma, the wood is more noticeable, dark and red frutis, chocolate, coffee, licorice, pepper. Extraordinary.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2016 Bottle in Brew Box. Very dark with tan head. Strong aromas of chocolate, cherries, rum, molasses and a hint of smoke. Chocolate and cherry flavours, with some molasses, leather and smoke and coffee. Dry mouthfeel. Lingering bitterness.

Dark and opaque with a caramel head. Aroma of dark bittersweet chocolate. Flavour is bitter, molasses and a hint of fruit. It somehow works. It's easy drinking and not too heavy. We drank it chilled to 2-3° C which is quite a bit cooler than recommended... Still good!

Appearance: with one finger of dense dark beige head, excellent retention and lacing. (5/5) Aroma: cocoa and dark chocolate, rum, liquorice, woody, dark fruit, roasty notes. (8/10) Taste: moderate-low sweet, moderate bitter, moderate alcohol. (8/10) Palate: full slick body, soft carbonation, off-dry boozy mildly bitter finish. (4/5) Quite a nice example of the style - lots of dark malt and fruit notes, but without the associated sweetness. The full body carries off the bigger ABV quite well, and the finish is decently dry, albeit somewhat boozy. On the subject of the booziness, the rum finish is quite even-handed, and the rum flavours do not dominate. This is the way I like this style done, but I think it would be even better after a year or two in the cellar. (17/20)

Karibi rumos hordban nemestett imperial porterknt ismerősen hathat a kanadai főzde itala, mivel az rlelsnek ezzel a tpusval ppen a minap volt alkalmam szembetallkozni a Prairie Pirate Noir szemlyben. Hasonl karakterisztikra kszltem teht, mely vrakozsomat mr a kitltst kvető kp fellrni ltszott, a főzet ugyanis egy rendkvl kerek, szinte kikezdhetetlen formavilggal megldott ital vonalait sugrozta szurokfekete testtel s egy ujjnyi bzs sznű habpaplannal. Nem az a szirupos, motorolajszerű, ttrhetetlen test, mint amit a vrmesebb imerial stoutoktl megszokhattunk, nhol bebocstst enged pr fnynyalbnak, vkonynak azonban semmi esetre sem nevezhetnnk. Illatai is teltek, sttek, mgis jtkosan knnyedek; a pirtott, fldes vonalakat nhol beterti egy sznes, alkoholos kpeny. Tartalma mr kevsb sokrtű - morcos hangulat, prklt, szinte mr hamus, fekete kortyok grdlnek lefel komtosan, a nehz, tcsokolds s robusztus kvs hangulatokat hosszas, karcosan kesernys utz kveti. Nmi alkoholos szvet itt is rfeszl a szerkezetre, egy villlansnyi rumos kicsengs kivehetőv vlik, a főszerep azonban a komoly, slyos, frfias mondanival. Az getten kesernys hangulatok szeretői ebben a srben talljk majd meg szmtsaikat.

Pours almost black with a beige head. After the head dies down a bit can smell cocoa, wood, and hints of rum. A lot of cocoa and malt upfront. Hints of rum. The back end leaves a very woody/ash mouth feel. Can feel the booziness in this one. It has all of the things that make me think I should be enjoying it more than I am. Overall, I am a bit disappointed.
