January 29, 2014 - at Bar Hop - on draught. Clear refractive amber-gold with a smallish creamy beige head. Smells a bit worty - sweet and floral, a touch boozy; graham cracker? Taste follows - sweet, then massive earthy generic bitterness comes out of nowhere in the finish - almost harsh; wtf?? Average body, mild carbonation, big and unwelcome astringency - long harsh grabby linger.

Pours copper, big frothy head, lasts forever. Malty fruity aromas, taste is malty, rye. It’s good.

Rating #1127 06.09.2014 650ml Bottle from CBI. Pours a golden copper colour with a frothy white head that bubbles away slowly. Aroma is rich, light citrus, hint of grassiness, mild alcohol. Taste is medium to full bodied, and the alcohol is masked slightly with the earthy, floral hops and grassiness, but certainly brings a heavy warmth and a bit of a hoppy bite. Delicious.

UXO (1922) - CANADA - MAR 24, 2015
Pours clear pale amber with two fingers of rocky light tan head, excellent retention and lacing. (4/5) Nose is muted, grainy malt, mild tropical fruit and earth. (6/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitter. (6/10) Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. (3/5) Pretty plain. Not a lot of rye presence, actually, though it eventually comes through in the finish. Regardless of whether you call it a Maibock or a Heller, ultimately it’s a lager, and yet again, it’s so hard to make a lager interesting I keep wondering, why bother? (12/20)

Amber, cloudy, decent, light floral nose, has light earthy taste, quite yeasty, and overall balanced and unexciting. Not much rye and no bock.

(Rating #6051)

2014-11-29. Lightly hazy dark orange body with a modest white body head 3++ Aroma is lightly fruity with a lightly grainy rye character. Flavour is moderately bitter, nice lightly grainy rye notes. Smooth average plus bodied palate, modest carbonation. Not super complex, pleasantly fruity. Drinkable but I much prefer their RyePA. Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto
