Black color with tan head.
Aroma is mainly roasted malt.
Flavor is complex - oaky, roasted malt, liquorice. Very full bodied and sweet in the middle with a dry finale. You certainly notice the ABV too but not in a bad way - it compliments the style and gives a warm finish.
Huge smokey aroma in an inky black pour. Big smokey malt body with a hint of preserved stonefruit and wood. Nicely complex - only lacking a little subtlety (which may come with age - if you could resist drinking it immediately). explosivedog (1678) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 10, 2016
440ml can. Pours pitch black with a dark brown head that doesn’t last. Aroma is boozy oak, rum and chocolate. Taste is similar but much more refined. Oak, vanilla, port, chocolate, plum brandy. Thick and luxurious. This is an imperial stout just how I like them, though with a lower ABV than the complexity might imply. Truly a fantastic beer.

Poured out black.
Nose is umami on first approach. There are some old smoky aromas, but also mixed in with charred wood with the richness of an almost creamy malt, something with body like a malted milkshake. As it comes up to room temperature, you start to appreciate saddle leather in the nose. Overall, an aroma that is less of a stretch would be like a hazelnut latte.
Mouthfeel is full and lightly syrupy. I say this because there are bold smoky, malty flavors that are offset by nice carbonation. Palate has alchohol, charcoal, which then fades into prunes, preserves with stone fruit like plums and dates and light honey. No hops.
Finish is woody, reminiscent of red wine, light bitter of burnt twigs and a deep Italian roast on a coffee bean.
Overall there are some nice burnt flavors, some preserved fruity body, balancing some medicinal, preserved herbal flavors that finishes quite ponderously, but surprisingly clean.

2016-07-23. Black body with a small brown head fades. Aroma of dark malt, light oak overtones. Flavour is nice, rich dark malt, light oak and moderate alcohol.
