Like a freelance gunslinger trailing corpses across the badlands, Johnny’s life oscillated between endless boredom and the adrenaline heat of those precious few seconds that gave his life meaning. Days in limbo waiting for smoke, flame, noise and the brutal pull on his guts that would bring life or death, victory or defeat. We can feel that specific gravity in the dark power of this Red IPA.

Good one.

440ml can. Pours red brown with a white head. Aroma is strong, with plenty of pine, caramel and orange. Flavour hits the same notes with a beautiful bitter caramelised orange finish. Very nicely put together, if not the most imaginative combination.

beer-yum (1906) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - NOV 6, 2016
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2017 Pine aroma in a deep copper brown pour. Hop forward balance with a big sweet fruity caramel body and sustained bitter finish. An excellent local (NZ) example of the style (D-RIPA).

drjoeng (1418) - SINGAPORE - OCT 3, 2016
8%ABV. Red IPA.

Poured out red brown. 26ºSRM.

Nose is sweet and nutty. Pine. There is also a rich brown leather fullness to the nose, a tang, that I’ve come to associate with an amber.

Mouthfeel is soapy. Palate is nutty, sweet. bread crumbs and graham cracker pie crust. Hops pine needle, fresh spruce, pine sap, oleander sap and bitter melon.

Finish is long, herbaceously bitter but fresh finish

Overall reminiscent of 2 of my recent beer epiphanies, both from Founder’s, the Redankulous and the Devil Dancer.

Goes on Favorites List!

Light haze on this deep amber beer, good cream colour head. Palate is airy, mildly dry and has good fine carbonation. Smooth creamy malts, caramel, mild to medium sweetness. Fair dose of hop spice. Marmalade. Little fresh juicy orange and touches of hop skunk and pine. Smooth finish leaves a long hop spicy linger. Juicy and very drinkable.

[8516-20160623] 500mL can. Fragrant malty sweet resin hops and maple syrupy floral notes. Clear, dark amber body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Sweet malty resinous fruit flavour has a long sweet aftertaste. Medium-full body. Average. (7/3/7-3/14) 3.4

2016-06-23. Crisp dark amber body with a nice creamy beige head. 4+ Aroma is alcoholic up front, with caramel notes, and muted green hop accents. Flavour is quite malty up front, caramel notes, moderate bitterness, fair bit of alcohol presence. Average plus bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Ok, less hop character than hoped for. 7/4/7/3/14 Can from Glengarry Wine and Spirits, Auckland, NZ.

bmeup (681) - Ormeau, AUSTRALIA - JUL 1, 2016
