The use of Hemp Flowers (among other entheogenic plants) in Beer was a common thing in whole Europe before the year 1512, when the so called "beer purity law" appeared in Germany. This purity law is perhaps the first anti drug law of the menkind... Hemp is an emparented plant with hops. Hemp flowers have more than 140 different aromatic compounds. Many of them are found in hops too and many others that are not produced by hops but fits perfect with hops together. This all different essential oils that results in the unmistakeable hemp flower aroma of Cannabia. Cannabia contains more hemp flowers than hops flowers. The production of Cannaba was autorized in 96 by the Berliner authoritys. For more on this beer visit: http://www.dupetit.de/english/framer.htm

33cl. bottle from a local supermarket. It pours an almost entirely clear golden liquid with a high white head that dissipates but manages to last somehow throughout the beer, leaving no lacing. The aroma is syrupy, with some sweet notes of citron, maize and a main smell of herbs, with hints of hemp and spices. It tastes likewise, being low-medium in sweetness and medium in a rather odd bitterness, with a slight touch of sourness. In the mouth it feels quite lively carbonated, a little weird (between a cider and a soda) though not annoying, smooth, with a medium body and a rather dry and watery finish, with an aftertaste of hemp and syrup. Presentation is quite adequate for a hemp beer, with a nice crown cap and label, but the beer is oddly flavoured. Original, but not a beer to drink regularly; once is enough.

Bottle from Real Foods.Organic hemp lager, the first of its kind according to the label. Pours a light blonde colour with a decent white head. Nice herbal aroma with some barley. Flavour is primarily of malted barley with some black pepper and a herbal quality. Some yeast also present. Moderate carbonation. Surprisingly long herbal linger.

Test vom 16.6.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,6,8,7,4,7 - 6,95

Hazy light blond color. The aroma is unexpected, there is a quite good beer base, with some malt, and a pleasant black pepper touch, and nettles. The mouthfeel is weak and dry; there is not much beer flavor, just a light, grassy touch, some peppery note, and almost missing bitterness. Poor.

Pale yellow. Small head. Herbal aroma. A light lager with a hint of hemp in the aftertaste (and more in the burp that came up afterwards). Weissenohe has a similar product which is amber in colour and tastes stronger.

pale sickly yellow colour with a bit of haziness, some steady bubbles pale lager aroma, nothing special thin, creamy body with some fizziness it is actually an improvement on a standard macro lager. not as sweet, has some earthiness to it, but really nothing to write home about.

A lager with a pronounced herby, bordering on spicy. flavour that blooms after the initial malt burst. Not subtle! Quite drinkable!
