For decades the Country Squire was a fine dining restaurant in Naramata. Following its fine example and carrying its name, Squire Scotch Ale is rich in both flavour and tradition. This variety of pale ale is defined by malt flavours that are strong and smoky with a touch of sweetness. The deep caramel colour and gentle hop profile round out this classic style ale.

Hazy auburn. Aroma is minerals and raisin/caramel malt. Flavour... tastes like caramelized peat. With emphasis on the first. Less roasty and smokey than others Ive tried. Which is a shame, to me. But less cloying, as well, which is of course a positive.

Welp, its well balanced stickiness. It was a bit underwhelming at first but Im warming up to it as the bottle empties.

650ml bottle pours a reddish brown color with a small white head that settles down to leaves only a few specks of lace. Aroma is caramel with some smokiness and a hint of hops. Taste is caramel malty sweet with some roasted grains and smoke and a light hoppy finish. Medium bodied with light carbonation. A pretty decent scotch style ale that was definitely appreciated.

gramity (1625) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 7, 2012
Reddish brown colored liquid topped by a short, creamy, off-white head. Foam shrinks, but doesnt disappear altogether, minimal lace. Aroma of sweetish caramel malt, light smokiness, and a touch of dark fruit. Malt flavor to start, sweet caramel, more smoke flavor. Some fruit, and a bit of hop bitterness. Body is rich and full. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. A nice blend, well balanced.

Sweet, rich malt aroma, biscuity, very nice. No hops, nothing off. Lighter colour for the style, great clarity, fairly high carbonation for style, good head retention. Flavour is malt, fairly simple caramel flavour and sweetness coming through. Some light apple or fruity esters. Finish lingers fairly sweet, but not cloying. Overall a good beer for Cannery.

Pours a reddish orange with minimal to no head. Not really picking up the malts in the aroma that I was expecting from a scotch ale. Smooth in mouth, minimal bitter after taste.

Copper orange in color. Very aromatic; reminiscent of fruits and caramel. Taste: the liquid gently caresses the tongue, and tickles the back of the throat. Its somewhat malty, somewhat sweet, and a bit of hoppiness thrown in. Nicely balanced.

Bottle split with mcberko. Pours a hazy copper orange / brown. Aroma of candied sugars, dark fruits, caramel and honey. Flavour of candied sugar, dark fruits, caramel backing, honey and apples. Sweet finish and a little thin.

Clear copper with a small tartan head, nose is sweet caramel malts and smoked peat. Strong and robust, some alcohol and vanilla. Finshes too syrupy sweet for my taste. Average.

Lovely clear amber colour with a great frothy white head and clinging lace. Rich, slightly smoked aroma. Rich syrup flavour, malt with a slight smokiness. Smooth texture.

July 18, 2010. 650ml bottle shared by blankboy with me, jerc & mabel. Clear copper pour, average and diminishing off-white head. Smell - caramel, sweet, thick, a hint of barnyard funky well-used straw. Taste follows, but less manure and more boring grassiness, hardly as much malt as was promised in the bouquet. Light, almost watery mouthfeel, a bit syrupy, very still, with a quick finish and pretty much no aftertaste .... mostly just boring.
