Beautiful dark amber color, clean; medium sized head. Aroma of malt and caramel, but too mild. The body is round enough, the mouthfeel is soft; good malt and caramel flavor, above the average, without the annoying burnt malt of other Scotch Ales; there is light residual sweetness and a hint of smoke; correct bitterness; the final shows also a light nutty side.
Not exciting, but well brewed.
[3138-20100718] 650mL bottle. Brewery spent grains aroma has peat, moss, and earthy malt and some mild creamed corn notes. Clear, amber orange body with a quick creamy off-white head. Earthy grains and peat moss malt flavour has a sweet grains aftertaste. Medium body. Average.

Bottled sample. Orange in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas are of rich pale malts, caramel, and a touch of peat smoke. Well balanced flavors consist of more pale and caramel malts, stone fruit, and sourish peat smoke. Lighter bodied and less sweet than expected. Slightly above average on its own, and went surprisingly well with my bison burger. jercraigs (10731) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 14, 2010
2010-07-18. Crisp copper body with a small off-white head, and light lace. 3+ Dusty toasty malt with odd tang in the malt. 6+ Flavour is similar, starts pleasantly, sweet malt takes on a less than ideal tangy character as it progresses. Average palate. Meh, not to my tastes today. Bottle shared by Blankboy

My bottle [650ml] shared with HogTownHarry, jerc & mabel. Pours a clear orange-amber with an average size fluffy off-white head. Malty aroma along with a bit of smoke and very light hops. Flavour: Meh, kind of whatever, there’s caramel malt with mild smoke and light hops. Average bodied. I don’t know, there’s something about this beer that I don’t care for.

(650ml bottle) Purchased at the brewery for an insanely cheap $4. Pours a lasting, yellow head atop a highly carbonated red brown body. Nose is very smokey with some peat and jerky. Flavour isn’t overly sweet, some bitter notes with a strong toasted finish. I suspect the smoked beer lovers will love this - and at 6.5%, its rather light on the palate. Very good. Bottle, shared with my brother-in-law. Pours an amber gold with an average white head. The aroma is-- and I kid you not-- tinned dog food. It’s meaty and metallic, like fucking DOG FOOD! Really hard to put this to my lips after that attention grabber. Flavours are thankfully more beerish, with light caramel malt, a little meaty smoke, and a mildly bitter finish. Not at all what a scotch ale should be in my mind. Just weird really. mcberko (18557) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 12, 2010
650mL bottle, pours vibrant orange. Aroma of caramel malts. Flavour of caramel malt, some sweetness, and some faint bourbon. Not bad. pintbypint (3763) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 6, 2010
650ml brown bottle. Pours dark orange, slightly unclear. Head is full and fluffy and airy. Good lacing. A bit of earth and hint of smoke in the aroma, as well as caramel malts. Flavour features caramel sweetness/toffee, subtle smoke and earth. Earthen finish, chewy malt, notes of grass leaving short lasting bitterenss behind. Medium bodied, strong lively carbonation. Decent, but was hoping for just a bit more intensity here. Powertrip (1000) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 25, 2010
Nice look, mix of red, brown and orange, none dominant. Nose: Rather quiet, some peanut butter, small fruits, and light earth. Taste: Big fresh apricots!?! ...dry strong malt, thin mouthfeel, late sour-smoke arrival that lingers through the finish. A note of cheese extremley late. I’m not turned off by this but I was expecting better things from this quality brewery.
