Dark reddish nice head. Aroma is coffee and chocolate. As well as taste. Good brew. solidfunk (8838) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - MAY 8, 2013
Pours near black with reddish tinge in sun on patio of brewpub. Has an initial smokey aroma. Creamy texture. Average carbonation, even a little too lively. Finishes bitter and sour with ok balance. On tap at brewpub. LarryBeast (616) - - APR 15, 2013
Growler from Canoe. Very dark reddish brown with thin beige head. Big roasty aroma of coffee and cocoa with hazelnut and a little dark fruit thrown in. Smoky sweetness tinged by soft (and late) hop bitterness. Fuller-bodied, flat but smooth. Good complexity, lively character. May be Canoe’s best. cleverlobo (319) - Connecticut, USA - JUL 11, 2012
Draught at Canoe; clear dark brown to red with small beige head; aroma-coffee, cocoa, caramel; taste-medium sweetness and bitterness, full body, thick. Good porter riversideAK (6260) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - JAN 18, 2012
Toasty and roasty almost leaning toward charred and earthy with a hint of chocolaye in there as well. Pours brown darker than normal with some haze and a tarnish head. Dry flavors of toast and roast charred malts, nifty notes earthy bitterness almost astringent but still smooth and drinlable. Nice brown.

Backlog - May 13, 2010. 660ml bottle shared by blankboy with me and garthicus. Deep clear ruby pour, average creamy/bubbly white head. Dry leafy aroma, with cocoa powder roast and dry bitterness added - no alcohol detected, which is nice. The taste is nutty and dry, with just a background bitterness, again it has no alcohol character to it. Think, slick and slightly astringent on the palate, weakly carbonated, with a quick, wispy dry finish. Clean, not syrupy - and that’s really all I look for in a brown ale now - no syrup!! Thanks to Blankboy. Appearance: Ribena red with a slight brown head. Aroma: Bran, bread, rye, quite toasty. Flavour: light rye, a little toast, long rye finish. Simple but and nice. BrewDad (5328) - Olympia, Washington, USA - OCT 2, 2009

This was nice brown ale I felt it was too light for the style and was hoping for a little more with the dark malts coming off with flavor.
