COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"For Akkurats (Stockholm/Sweden) fifteenth anniversary, Jean Van Roy has made a very special Gueuze. It is a blend of one, two, and three year old lambic and was bottled in April of 2005. It has then been fermented and matured for five years in the deep caveaus of Cantillon. 15 years is the minimum age for driving a moped in Sweden, which is why we are choosing the name, Gueuze Vélomoteur."

Bottle @ Akkurat. Such a light and fresh gueuze. Really really nice! Love akkurats beautifull bottles.

750mL bottle at Akkurat, pours a cloudy golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma of intense barnyard funk, some moderate horse blanket, and dry tart light fruits - super complex. Flavour brings out soft barnyard funk, some cheese, loads of lemon, and acidic citrus fruits. Very soft on the palate for a gueuze, with a medium acidity and a relatively high citrusy and lemony body. Fairly complex and very lemony. Good stuff, but not worth the price tag or hype.

(Bottle) Pours hazy golden with a medium sized, off-white bead. The aroma is mega funky with notes of horse blanket, mouldy basement and barnyard brett up front alongside clear lacto notes. Also boat loads of citrus (grapefruit and lemon), elder, sweaty cheese, phenols (smoked meat) and subtle spices. Touch of pineapple. The flavour is dry, medium to heavily acidic and tiny bitter with notes of brett, lacto, citrus, cheese, wheat, white bread and phenols. The mouthfeel is soft and tart with a light to medium carbonation. Citric, funky and wheaty finish. Light to medium bodied.

In short: A refreshing citrusy/lemony Gueuze with mouth drying tannins. Excellent beer, slightly below average Cantillon.
How: Bottle 750ml at Akkurat, Stockholm.
The look: Cloudy blond body topped by a medium white head with surprisingly good retention.
In long: Nose is nicely funky, a bit on the cheesy side, citrus fruits and lemon. Taste has moderate funk, medium presence of lactic acid (relative to the style), refreshing notes of citrus fruits, light presence of oak tannins, a bit of cheese. Plenty of lactic acid but sourness level is a bit lower than the regular Gueuze. Overall, softer and more citrusy-lemony than Cantillon’s regular Gueuze but with more tannins. Lambic worshipers will probably want to hang me upside down but I think this Cantillon Vélomoteur has a lot in common with the Timmermans Oude Gueuze (except for the tannins part), and those same lambic worshipers will want to also burn me at the stake but I actually really like the Timmermans Oude Gueuze, it is like a refreshing gueuze lemonade, and so was Vélomoteur. Certainly not as good as Cantillon’s regular Gueuze, but this was nonetheless a treat on a hot humid summer day in Stockholm. These days rare Cantillons are a big craze, but these beers are not pokemons, let’s not be childish about collecting them all, and btw I had a rare Cantillon and you didn’t, na na na, I had a rare Cantillon and you didn’t, na na na, I had a rare Cantillon and you didn’t, na na na.

Bottle at Akkurat. Hazy, light orange liquid with small to medium white head. Aroma of apples, lemons, sweat, tropical fruit funk and some mineral. Tsate is dry and medium to high sour with a nicely balanced lemony flavour. Really dry. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Really good, quite similar to the regular Cantillon Gueuze but better.

The pour is a hazy golden orange with a tall white head. A very strong and clean acidity on the aroma. Lots of lactic/lemon sourness, green apple, and unripe melon. Mild oak, a lot of white wine, and heavy musty and earthy funk notes. Lots of straw and grass, too. The flavor is highly acidic with a lot of lemon, unripe strawberry, melon, and green apple. A hint of wine and oak with the typical mustiness of Cantillon lambic. Extremely dry and acidic finish.

Bottle @ Akkurat. Pours slightly hazy golden with a small frothy white head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is sour and funky with lemon juice, grapefruit juice, barnyard, leather, green grapes, horse blanket, green apples, dry soil, lemongrass, lemon zest, unripe apricots and hints of gastric acid. Taste is sour, tart and funky with lemon juice, hay, grapefruit juice, lemon zest, dry soil, peaches, apricots, gastric acid, apples, barnyard, green apples, barnyard, leather and hints of horse blanket. Mouthfeel is dry, tart, tiny mouth puckering and medium bodied. Finish is sour and tart with lemon juice, hay, barnyard, dry soil, leather, green grapes and grapefruit juice. Very good, as expected.

Scopey (15507) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 21, 2012
Bottle at Akkurat. It pours clear golden, thick white head. The nose is hay, floral, tart lemon, white wine, wood, hint of vinegar and white bread. The taste is tart white grape, vinous, white vinegar, some farmyard, sharp lemon, lime, tangerine, grape skin and grapefruit, with a refreshingly sour finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Deliciously tart, flavoursome and for me anyway easy drinking!

Bottle @ Akkurat. Hazy, dark golden appearance with a tan head. Funky, cheesy, rich lemon, very sour, tangy, complex nose. Richly tangy, big lemon, a touch oaky, refreshing, very rich sour, somewhat funky flavor. Nice brew.
