Please note the age of the sample you are reviewing when entering your rating. While many factors determine whether you have had "Jonge" or "Oude" Lambik, a general rule of thumb is to enter 1 year-old or older lambik under "Cantillon Oude Lambik" and anything less than 6 months-old under "Cantillon Jonge Lambik".

For those between 6 and 12 months of age, you should take in to consideration the character of the lambik. Samples presenting themselves as hazy/cloudy, with some head-formation and residual sugar should be entered as "Jonge Lambik", while those that are drier, higher in clarity and with little/no head formation should be entered as "Oude Lambik".

From cask at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Bright and hazy orange with a big white head. Quite rich, extremely tart, leaves some dryness in the finish. My taste vocabulary struggles a bit with lambics as the tartness seems to dominate - I guess in this one being young it’s more unripe fruit maybe apples and gooseberries? Anyway, felt hugely complex and tasty, way better than I had expected.

@ Beerlovers Bar Nice mellow bread aroma. Taste is soft acidity, more bread dough, leather, esters. Palate is very nice.

Pours cloudy golden with low white head. Aroma of grass, green grapes, hay. Taste is mild tarty with a mild funky finish. Light and smooth body with soft carbonation.

From a small tulip at the brewery. Nose is wheat, funk, farmhouse. Tart acidic, nice.

Jar at the brewery. Maybe I got the name of this one wrong but this it the young lambic, the base for all the other beers. I wasn’t a big fan to be honest. It smells as one would imagine, slight wee colour to it and it just felt a bit weak with a strong iron/ blood feelings in the mouth.

Cask. Moderate funk, light cheesy, light barley. Taste is the same. Light sourness. Good, but nothing noteworthy compared to the mature versions.

rayaron (1997) - Kfar Saba, ISRAEL - MAY 15, 2017
Draught at Cantillon Brewery, Brussels. Golden with no head. The aroma has notes of yeasts, wood, vegetables, vinegar and some fruitiness. Sour flavor with notes of lemon, wood, some fruitiness, white wine, bitterish, lemon zest. Watery, slightly dry, light-bodied. A bit aggressive but nice.

At the brewery. Clear golden. Aroma of oak and Brett. Sour, lemony, oak, green apples, a bit bitter. Light-bodied, flat.

Tap. Open Baladin, Rome. Pours a still light gold boy with zero head. The nose is fairly light, still a bit sweet with just a light hint of funkiness. The flavor is very minimally tart and funky on the finish, almost a standard wheat beer up front at first. There’s just the slightest Cantillon character to this. Light to medium bodied, completely flat, the finish is rather short for a lambic. Not the greatest drink, but awesome to see the beginnings of what will become amazing after more time in the barrel.

dunklermessias (334) - GERMANY - APR 18, 2017
Bag in a Box at Muted Horn Berlin. Pours with a hazy golden color and a very tiny white head. The nose is restrained, just some fruits like apple and pears, some acidity notes. Taste of bitter.sour wood, some sour fruits. Corbonation is completly missing.

Fun to try at Cantillon, but really prefer their finished products. Clearly sour, but lacking a lot.
