The worst beer I tried at Festival 2013, the low carbonation, heavy alcohol presence, weird sweetness, and barely apparent lambic quality made me really hate this beer. Ugh, why Jean why?!?

Bottle pour at the brewery. Pours cloudy darkish amber, no head. Aroma is slightly funky, but clearly a lot stronger in ABV than other Lambic. More malt, little booze. Body is heavy and strongly bitter, only a little sour, but no carbonation or tartness. Some fruity sweetness makes it, but is mostly drenched in bitterness. Short palate, a bit of booze. Not a beauty.

Bottle pour at the source. The beer is a clear copper with a white head of foam. The aroma has dry, earthy, grainy notes. Taste is sweet at first, then develops a slight tartness toward the finish. Big body and medium carbonation.

Bottle pour at the Brewery. Pours hazy depp orange, small off-white head. Malty, sweetish, wood, dried fruit, some funk. Sour, tart. Strong wood, vinegar, even some cognac notes in aftertaste, maybe a bit throat burning. Definitely not easy to drink, but very interesting brew.

Bottle. Pours a lightly hazy amber orange with a quickly fading bubbly off white head. Aroma is of vinegar, dried fruits, caramel, apple butterscotch. Taste is of vinegar, citrus, butterscotch, grassy, hint of orange, floral. Almost syrupy, oily mouthfeel with little to no carbonation.

From notes. Enjoyed at Cantillon on November 10. Draft pour. The pour is a dark ruby with a faint ring of off white head and a couple bubbles stuck to the glass. The aroma is really strong on the oak and alcohol. Jesus. There is a big time caramel and a dark fruit forward aspect, but the alcohol is just huge. The light grape must on the back end add a lambic style to this, but shit, it’s not great. The flavor is much of the same. The alcohol just dominates. The dark fruits and caramel work with the grape must to create a sweet and tart alcohol that I’m not feeling. The mouth feel is somewhat thick, but has a nice crisp carbonation and doesn’t come off as syrupy as it looks. The aftertaste is heavy on oak, alcohol, and a fruity sweetness. This is just a mess.

Sampled @ Cantillon thanks to Sebletitje. Clear rusty orange color, no head. Smell and taste both have a nice mix of wood, light tart, nice fruit influences. Tart finish. Nice.
