COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Please note the age of the sample you are reviewing when entering your rating. While many factors determine whether you have had "Jonge" or "Oude" Lambik, a general rule of thumb is to enter 1 year-old or older lambik under "Cantillon Oude Lambik" and anything less than 6 months-old under "Cantillon Jonge Lambik".

For those between 6 and 12 months of age, you should take in to consideration the character of the lambik. Samples presenting themselves as hazy/cloudy, with some head-formation and residual sugar should be entered as "Jonge Lambik", while those that are drier, higher in clarity and with little/no head formation should be entered as "Oude Lambik".

Bag in box. A hazy golden beer with no head. The aroma has notes of brettanomyces, funk, malt, and lemons. The flavor is sour with notes of brettanomyces, funk, lemons, and malt, leading to a tart finish.

Pour from a bag in a box (!) at the Shelton Brothers Festival. Labeled as "2-year classic maturation lambic aged in sixth-use barrels" on the festival list, and "lambic 2 years old classic maturation" at the table. So thats what this version was, two-year-old lambic. It pours a clearer gold than the Armagnac and Meursault barrel-aged ones, but also with no head. Notes of lemon, lime, grass, grapes, leaves, herbs, oak, cheesecloth, faint sulphurs, and dry grains. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a dry, tart, kind of bitter mouthfeel. Id put this as my second favorite of the three. Interesting stuff.

At the brewery, hazy cutrus orange color, aroma of apples, light spiciness and some minerals, quite tart and a bit coarse, even a bit of a hot sensation, ,some tannins, feels a bit heavy. Interesting.

Sample @brewery. Pours slightly hazy yellow, no head. Funk, barnyard, light citric notes in aroma. Taste is lightly sweet at first, than citric and funky, not that much as in older ones. Medium body, quite dry, citric finish.

Saeglopur (1931) - Vienna Woods, AUSTRIA - OCT 1, 2016
2 year old draught at Tribaun, Innsbruck.
Dark golden, moderate hazy body, with a tiny head.
Tart aroma of funk, horse blanket, unripe pears, leather, sour citrus, green apples, cheese, barrel.
Taste follows this pretty much, also tart and dry.
Light, slick mouthfeel, with a low carbonation.
Finishes sour, tart, dry, with pears, wood, apples, leather, funk.

Nice one. Really sour and dry, with a lot of aged character. Im just missing some carbonation, feels quite flat in the mouth. Overall interesting stuff, while not among my favourite Cantillons.
