"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

37.5 cL bottle at Ølbaren. Pours hazy red with a creamy off-white head. Aroma raspberry fruity and dry. Flavour is dry raspberry fruity with a light dry wooden note. Dry acidic to citric finish. Classic Cantillon dryness yet delicate fruity touch all the way through.

The aroma is very special a little metallic and sour and like a dunghill - attracting and repulsive at the same time - very interesting. It is clear red with a head the starts big but vanishes extremely fast. The flavor is flat, rather acidic and yet sweet - it lingers on the palate and lips. The nicely sour - without being too sour. It only has hints of metal in the flavor. It is very hard to tell, that it is a Framboise.

Bottled at DBF 2005. Orange pink coloured with a white head. Aroma of fruits with notes of lactic acid. Acidic flavour with lots of fruits and acidic notes.

Bottled. Very reddish colour with some amber hints, almost no head. While pouring sweet strawberry/raspberry mixed aroma, with the Cantillonish-bitter-sour notes coming after it is in the glass. Strong Cantillonish lambicflavour. Aftertaste has some weak fruity and berryish hints, but as usual the sourness/bitterness covers it up pretty much. Some wineish hints also.

Tasted a 1986 bottle, brewed in 1984, stored well at the Kulminator in Antwerp. Cloudy orange/amber with scant head. Aroma of raspberries, lemon, and wet horse-blanket (but in a good way!). Potent sourness, dusty dryness, and a yeasty-finish. More complex, more sour, and drier than a younger bottle.

Bottle at Chris-o’s Pre GBBF tasting and 2009 ... hazy orange pink ... barnyard fruity sour nose .. sour tart ... little wood ... some chicken shit .. just not me.

omhper (25744) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - MAY 16, 2002
Very authentic lambic, which means really sour. Cocktail berry red. Not much raspberry flavour at all, just a slight hint. It's good, but just too sour for me to fully enjoy, as I react physically to the sourness - my cheeks contract, and my throat and stomach burns.

Sampled draught. Clear red. Acidic nose with a tart raspberry aroma. Very dry, the raspberry flavour is well balanced and not overpowering the subtlety flavurs of the gueuze. Bordering on being too acidic for me.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Pink beer, is this supposed to be fruity? Incredibly sharp and sour. Not easy to drink but not entirely unpleasant. 2010 note: Thus the struggle with Lambics begun!
