2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours dark cola brown with thin beige head that sticks around. I get almost nothing in the nose. Tastes of roasted malts with a hint of pine. Agree with other ratings that calling this an IA is dumb.
I guess it fits in this category because of its strength and it does have some hoppiness. The hops are more in the order of a PA tho. And it’s kind of weird to have a cocoa hopped beer. As others have said, it doesn’t work so well. nealblind (1865) - Seattle, Alabama, USA - JAN 14, 2016
sorta brown black with creamy head. Aroma slight choco, slight pine herbal hops. Tastes chocolate, hops, resinous dry creamy palate ccex (1313) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 31, 2015
12 oz. can pours a dark brown with lots of bubbles rising to a medium tan head with good lacing. Nose is full of pine resin and citrus peel. However, the aroma is dominated by overly roasted malts with some soap and a trace of coffee. Taste is slightly bitter with a long bitter finish of more malts than hops. Body is medium with lively carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. This one seems a bit off if you’re expecting a memorable black IPA. I had hoped for something hoppier. nimbleprop (8382) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - AUG 24, 2015
On tap at HopCat Madison pours a deep, brick red on the verge of brown with some lacing, white head. Nose is very true to style, nutty, toasty, malt, some soap, resin, dried citrus peel. Flavor follows, chewy grains, toast, soap, malt, pine. Full bodied and dry. Solid. Travlr (24875) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - AUG 6, 2015
Draft at HopCat Madison. Dark brown color, thin off beige head. Aroma of chocolate and light citrus. Taste is fruity cocoa, roasty coffee. OK.

Bottle share at Evernote in Redwood City, CA. A pretty drab and wimpy thing. Nothing special to report. Barreras (1689) - Diamond Bar, California, USA - MAY 25, 2015
Pours a black in color with a roasted malt aroma. Taste is a dirty malt bitterness and over roasted flavor. A dry finish, leaving a malty bitterness in the aftertaste. boozedude (2228) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - MAY 11, 2015

Can at a shitty bar in wrigley vile. Very malty. Yeasty and earth aroma. Has hints of chocolate and is overall not good. I'm not going to enjoy this voyage
