3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 25, 2003 Bottled. Another fine Wisconsin German beer. Dark malts just right, sweet & lip-smacking. Nice to just stick your nose in and inhale (bocks and amber lagers can be some of the most 'beery' smelling beers I've found). A fine, though not exceptional, example of the style. You'd be well advised to buy this when in season, or in one of Capital's "brewery tour" 8-packs.
These guys have shown they can do very good beers that stick to style, and their uniform label design suggests they want to get placed in the store with the mega beers. Hope they decide to go wild and do something special!
Bready, earthy aroma, perhaps some caramel and fruit. Attractive golden color accented by rising carbonation bubbles. Topped with a 1 inch thick, creamy off-white head receding at a moderate pace. Substantialness to the feel, not thin. Thick-tasting (if that makes any sense). Bready with a touch of spiciness and fruit. The spiciness provides a nice balance to the bready malts, since there is not much bittering at all. Not sweet, but nicely balanced. Very enjoyable spring-time seasonal. Can. Caramel malt aroma with notes of toffee, biscuit and some earthy hops. Pours clear, dark golden colored with a thin white head that has little retention or lacing. Starts with sweet caramel and toffee malt flavors. Finishes smooth and refreshing with a bit of biscuit malt and a touch of earthy hops. Excellent bock! From a can poured into a shaker at a restaurant. Really rich slightly creamy maibock. Bright but complex malt bill with definite maltose notes. One of the best of the style I have had. BeerandBlues2 (13594) - Escondido, California, USA - APR 17, 2016
