Bottled. Poured bright, lighter orange with a well-retained, sticky off-white head. The aroma picked up orange zest, grass, and peppery hoppage over sweet caramel and biscuity notes.. OK, but it didn’t really pop. The flavor found orange, grass, and pine bitterness over bready malts.. grainy, residual sugars and bitterness on the finish.. a bit tacky and sharp by the end. Lighter-bodied with low-moderate carbonation on the palate.. didn’t flow great.. this was just OK. wlajwl (6885) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - MAY 1, 2013
Aroma is yeast, citrus and very light pine. The flavor is citrus, light grapefruit, slightly soapy in texture, malts and a dry/lightly bitter finish. Decent enough but, as expected, Capital’s German style offerings are their best. Braudog (6763) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - JUL 8, 2013
Draft at the brewery beer garden, and at the University Terrace ... several pitchers worth for July 4th. Dark bronze, frothy head. Drinks with a solid malt base and a rich mouthfeel. Topped with genuinely good earthy and piney hoppiness. (#5136, 7/4/2013) Patrickctenchi (6630) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - MAY 30, 2013
Nearly clear, bubbly amber, with a short, off-white head.
Orange peel.........a little pine aroma.
Taste is moderate bitter orange peel, caramel malt, tea leaves...wood.
Very dry,...white pepper notes.
Ok, but just a plodding, dull bitter throughout. vyvvy (6524) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - MAY 23, 2013
Pour golden / copper with a good sized soapy off-white head. The aroma has pine, grapefruit zest, mushy caramel malt and some orange. It has a medium body with a bit of a rough grainy feel and minor carbonation. The flavor starts with dry bready malt, dry caramel, earth, pine, wood and just a lot of rough hop bitterness. The finish has a lot of earth, dry grapefruit and resin. Good IPA, but the hop flavors are heavy on the the abrasive side with not a lot of distinct flavors popping out.

Cloudy orange pour at grape escape in galena. Spicy aroma. Dank floral and apricot notes. Not very good. Will get it down the hatch though nuplastikk (6313) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - APR 30, 2015
12oa bottle. If they had come out with a completely bad-ass IPA, people would have lost their shit. This is straight up mediocrity, maybe worse. First of all, anything Stevens Point touches it destroys. Definite grainy buttery schwaggy action. Thick and sugary. Cheap quality. Unenjoyable. More than likely I will never drink this beer again. Picked up single 12-oz bottle from Riley’s Wines of the World in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear golden amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of caramel malt with some floral and light citrus. Taste is medium bodied with flavors of caramel malt with a hint of floral and citrus hops Finish is semi-sweet with a caramel malt aftertaste and a mild hop bitterness. Nothing spectacular that could knock your average hophead’s socks off, but more of a hoppy amber ale overall. thegreenrooster (4448) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - AUG 15, 2015
Pour is a clear orange with a large white head. Aroma is an ok hop not striking but there. Flavor is more a caramel malt with a very minor hop in the backround. Finish is a heavy dose of malt. It had a minor hop presence so it was not awful but in the large world of IPA’s you have to go all out and this did not. Frank (4209) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 25, 2014
I did not think an IPA from Capital was worth getting excited about and it turns out I was right. This is a pretty nice orange color w/ a soapy head and lots of lace. Nose is mild hops, mostly pine and floral. Taste is really along those same lines. It is perhaps slightly sweet w/ a rather nondescript hoppiness that works as far as balance but really doesn’t impress. It finishes w/ a touch of iced tea astringent character and some lingering sweetness. This seems to be a well-brewed beer w/ no real off flavors or anything like that but it doesn’t have the vibrant hop character I look for in the style. I enjoy many of Capital’s beers but think I will be sticking w/ the lagers for the most part as far as ones that I will try more than once.
