UPDATED: JUN 24, 2008 12 oz. twist-off bottle, no freshness date, sampled in a pint glass. L: Crystal clear orange hued golden with a slightly off-white head of fluffed creamy foam, decent retention, the head settled into a thin sudsy layer with a light amount of lace sticking to the brim of the glass. Not the best looking APA I have ever tried, but not a bad one either, fills the bill for me on this warm summer evening. S: Light, brisk and neatly aromatic hop nose, touches of pine needles and grapefuit peel, a little sweet orange blossom as well. A mild backing of sweet pale malts with hints of caramelized sugar. A pretty basic, stock smelling APA, a lightly refreshing smell in its own way. F&T: Light bodied with enough carbonation zip to give it a soft firmness and a mellow creamy crispness. I would have liked more of a hop presence, especially since this is called ’U.S. Pale Ale,’ the hop use is a bit too restrained for the APA style. Hop tastes of grapefruit zest, somewhat watery pine and drops of lemon and orange juice. A weak pale malt backbone, hints of toasted grains added to sugar water. Finishes on the watery side, sugary malts with a little sour citrus. I am a fan of the beers from Capital, but this was quite disappointing. If the recipe changes, I will try this again, but as it stands now, this is ready for retirement.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2010 Bottle from Champanes, has a clear bright, medium gold pour with some effervescence, produced a white one to two finger head that dissipated to a ring, aromas of bread, faint floral and citrus hops, light pear fragrance, hints of toasted malt, little sweetness on the nose, flavors of toasted malt with some bread, grain and light fruit, has a crisp finish with some hop bitterness, mouth feel is a little less than medium with some hop bitterness, an ok Pale Ale, pretty easy to drink, and I think this would taste good with Pizza.

Can. Pours a light pale golden with a small white head. Aroma...smells like it’s a bit older. Sweet and caramely with every little hops presence, and what is there is a touch piney and very dumbed down to the sweet candy. Flavor is a touch hoppier but only in the lightly bitter finish. Still mostly malty candy caramel and toffee. Light to medium body and a sharp carbonation. Bleh, this isn’t tasting great

Doppelganger (1389) - Dry County, Arkansas, USA - SEP 13, 2009
Pretty pale yellow, small layer of white bubbles. Rustic dried grapefruit aroma, pleasant woody nose like Pride of Ringwood. Very clean lemony malt, melon and pollen hops, brisk and nicely balanced.

12 oz bottle pours an almost clear orange with small white head but good lacing. Aroma is of piney and citrus hops with a good caramel malt backbone, but nothing overpowering. Flavor is malty without much of a finish. Light to medium body. A good APA but nothing I’ll remember.

I can’t believe I’m the second person to rate this beer. Sample from the brewery. Clear amber color with small white head. Caramel and sweet aroma that was matched in the flavor but also clove and banana aroma as well. Med full body. Very standard pale without any hops to speak of.

Had this one on draught at the brewery in Middleton, Wisconsin. Clear, medium golden pour with a wispy white head, light floral hoppy nose, nuanced bitterness but plenty of floral, piney hops. Strong but balanced finish. Great!

Scipio (1220) - Palatine, Illinois, USA - FEB 27, 2012
Bottle. Nice golden in color without to much head. Somewhat of a citrus aroma with hops. Flavor consists of citrus and perhaps pine, while it is not to hoppy. Nothing really negative to say, but nothing to special to speak of either.

Bottle. Pours a pale clear amber with a lace of off-white head that accumulates at the edge of the glass. Very little lacing. Floral hops aroma with a rich malty, spicy body. Light bodied, very mild, some spiciness in the finish. A bit soapy, hint of toast. Thin.
