light amber color with an off white head diminishes quickly, malt, fruit, and sweet aroma...malt comes through in the flavor with a subtle butterscotch and very light bitterness, light body with slight carbonation and quite smooth finish...very drinkable Northernbrewer (151) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - DEC 14, 2002
A deceptivly pale beer for the malty punch that it packs. Like allmost everything Capital makes it is brewed very well and speaks of good quality ingredients and techniques. Light caramel and a good alcohol punch make it a fine winter beer, but it is somwhat lager like and I am not sure if the English Strong Ale catagory is a good standard to judge this fine beer by. Orange and red in color. Had it of tap and didn’t seem to come out that much after warming up. I thought the smell was weak but sweet and fruity. Taste is almost the same good flavor but doesn’t linger on. illiniphil (148) - Nashotah, Illinois, USA - DEC 16, 2012
12 oz. Bottle. Poured a golden copper with a one finger head (aggressive pour). Taste is as advertised. Nice malt flavor with a bitter finish.
It's frustrating to read reviews by people that don't seem to know the style of beer they are reviewing. This beer is a good example of it's style. Period.

Strong malty taste and a slightly sweet aroma. Amber in color with an off-white head

It seems like all of the Capital beers are starting to taste the same, which isn’t a bad thing. A bit too mild to be classified as a winter brew, the mix of malt and hops is great as always. Also seems a bit pale in appearance. craven5000 (120) - Westville, Indiana, USA - JAN 2, 2004
Light tan, quick dying head over bubbly clear amber. Watery in mouth with light flavor. zer0crew (119) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 4, 2010
Bottle. Pours a hazy orange with hints of amber. No real head, aroma is strong of malts and carmel sweetness with some spicy hops. It doesn’t taste nearly as malty sweet as it smells. More of a smooth, slow, broad bitterness. burcusabrews (106) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA - NOV 8, 2004
Big full bodied amber color beer. Wonderful nutty aroma with big mouthfeel. On tap at the Capital Brewery tap room. One of my fav’s of the evening. Much bigger body than the rest with a great balance in flavors
