Basically, a perfect amber lager. Done the way it should be. Nice roasty character, but balance by some pine notes on the finish. Very clean, easy drinking. JonnyMadison (87) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 10, 2014
Bottle. Very fragrant. Crisp hops cut through at first, with a bitter taste, but it smooths out nicely and finishes with a roasted caramel flavor. Aftertaste is a bit dry, but overall a nice amber lager. Indra (2711) - Suburbia, Kansas, USA - JUL 7, 2002
Malty, sweet aroma. Bittersweet maltiness mingles well with hop flavors on the finish. Ample carbonation but no head; sparklingly clear amber color. Overall, quite satisfying for a brew of this type. Recommended. muzzlehatch (4959) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 13, 2001
I was a bit surprised by this; had it in Madison yesterday at a Mexican restaurant not knowing much about it, and it turned out to be one of the best Ambers I’ve had. Lots of malty character, very sweet and caramel-like, but with just enough hops to keep it from going Scotch Ale on you. Could have more character in the nose, but not much to complain about. hennes (934) - Fountain, Michigan, USA - DEC 2, 2002
I bought a bunch of Capital stuff for my mom’s sixtieth birthday bash, and it was a capital choice. This one was right up there with the best Ambers I’ve had - rich and flavorful with a powerful, robust, almost nutty malt action well egded with spicy hops. Nicely done.

Nice malty aroma. Good malt flavor, balanced by a good hop backbone. Good style representation. jtw (1164) - farmington, Michigan, USA - APR 8, 2004
clear copper/amber, small head. mild, sweet aroma--almost like coca-cola. full body of sweet malt with a smooth transition into a complex hoppy finish. solid body; very enjoyable. wlajwl (6815) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - SEP 25, 2011
In the aroma its caramel malts and a noticeable hoppiness. The flavor is hoppy and slightly grainy with a lingering caramel malty finish. A very good amber, easy to drink but also with a pretty good flavor. Lemke10 (981) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 11, 2012
I had this on-tap at Wedges in Janesville, WI for $3 in early 2012.
Pours a semi-cloudy amber color with about an inch of a frothy white head. Scent of toasted malts and caramel malts. The taste is mostly of toast malts that are slightly crisp and bitter mixed with some hints of citrus as well. Finishes with a slight dry after taste. Definitely much better than I was expecting. An overall great amber brew!
