Pint @ Capitol Hill. Lightly hazy honey yellow colored body. Frothy, yeasty, full and rich, which is something of an odditiy at this brewery, and there’s a bit of pepper and spices, some soapy scents and flavors as well, and some mellow cherries and mild funky yeast in there as well. Texture becomes gritty (maybe even chunky) over time, and the yeast is nice enough, just barely tart. A good one to drink. radagast83 (8059) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - MAR 11, 2007
Draft at Downtown location. I am somewhat unfamiliar with this style of beer, so I didn’t know what to expect. Copper color, with a thin white head. Malty aroma. Flavor is that of spices, with some ginger. CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAR 10, 2007
Sampled on tap on 7/15/06 at the downtown location: Pours a lightly effervescent copper with a thin ring of white head. Has a toasty, earthy grainy and sweet biscuity malty aroma. Starts with a sweet earthy grainy maltiness, some mild toasty malt and a drier bittering hoppiness. Has some warming alcohol in the finish. Cletus (6355) - Connecticut, USA - OCT 16, 2010
Pours gold with an off white head. Smells of raisins, grapes, floral, some funky touches, peppery, dry. Taste is nicely balanced with some dry malt, perfumy hop notes, spicy elements and a dry finish. Very enjoyable.

Draft at the Downtown location during the RBSG DC Pub Crawl. Rusty amber. Nose is spicy, fruity and flowery. Lots of peppery spices in the taste, light caramel, soft ginger, grass, and fruit. Body is medium and smooth with moderate carbonation. Finishes peppery, fruity and yeasty with more malt and flowers. Rastacouere (6177) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 10, 2005
Clear light orangey amber, gently covered by a creamy off-white head. Combining husks and esters form soft apricot, banana and mango nuances that complement the honeyed cereals and biscuity caramel malts. I couldn’t figure if it was yeast work or additions, but the spiciness emerging from this nose is most appealing, ringing bells of cumin, pepper and ginger. Somehow, the mellow butteriness never disturbs, as the global smoothness of the malt and unexciting hops procure a sense of plain balance. Medium airy body full of small bubbles. Not a bad take, finishing a bit short perhaps. thirdeye11 (6160) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAR 5, 2011
(Draught at GABF) clearish gold frothy tan head. Nose is funky, Belgian yeast, floral, spices and coriander. Taste of coriander, grass, earth, floral and herbal. Too earthy in the finish and an oily body. BückDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - OCT 3, 2006
Draught at Downtown location during RBSG DC 06 Weekend
Clear amber color, no head and light lacing. Nose of lightly spiced beer, sweet malt, light carbonation, some esters and a touch of that ginger. Moderately hopped and floral. The flavor is sweet and syruppy, lightly tart and a bit of estesrs, but way too sweet and uncarbonated. Should be dry and fizze. N’est ce pas? beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - SEP 19, 2010
Sampled at GABF on 9/17/2010. This Biere de Garde pours a light gold color from the tap. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and spicy, malt and cereal. A medium bodied Biere de Garde. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are floral and herbal. Touch of spiciness. Nice carbonation. Crisp and clean. Very drinkable. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
