Sampled on tap on 7/15/06 at the downtown location: Pours a lightly effervescent copper with a thin ring of white head. Has a toasty, earthy grainy and sweet biscuity malty aroma. Starts with a sweet earthy grainy maltiness, some mild toasty malt and a drier bittering hoppiness. Has some warming alcohol in the finish. Draught at the Downtown location. Amber with a lacy head. Aroma of spices, medicinal herbs, caramel, and earthy hops. The flavor has some toasty, toffee, and caramel malt sweetness, and earthy bitterness, and lots if medicinal spice. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. The spice is a bit overboard and could definitely be mellowed, but didn’t ruin it. thirdeye11 (6162) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAR 5, 2011
(Draught at GABF) clearish gold frothy tan head. Nose is funky, Belgian yeast, floral, spices and coriander. Taste of coriander, grass, earth, floral and herbal. Too earthy in the finish and an oily body. Block (2950) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - SEP 6, 2011
This beer was really interesting. A smokey aroma with a smokey/ meaty flavor. Tasted like a ham and cheese sandwich. A smoked meat and wood flavor throughout. A nice mix in their line-up. blank (996) - Austin, Texas, USA - APR 27, 2005
intresting... a cloudy dark yellow/orange. The guy with the cigar next door killed any chance of getting an aroma. The taste was intresting and took me a few tries before I good figure out what i was drinking. A little sweet with a touch of citrus. Ok..

Clear light orangey amber, gently covered by a creamy off-white head. Combining husks and esters form soft apricot, banana and mango nuances that complement the honeyed cereals and biscuity caramel malts. I couldn’t figure if it was yeast work or additions, but the spiciness emerging from this nose is most appealing, ringing bells of cumin, pepper and ginger. Somehow, the mellow butteriness never disturbs, as the global smoothness of the malt and unexciting hops procure a sense of plain balance. Medium airy body full of small bubbles. Not a bad take, finishing a bit short perhaps. aracauna (3651) - Georgia, USA - JUL 17, 2006
Clear copper with very little head. Possibly because it just came on line today. The rest have been excellent in all areas of appearance. The aroma is a little bit floral, a little bit musty and a little bit of pear fruitiness. The flavor is full of the spiced stewed pear fruit. A bit sweet. Interesting, but not really all that complex. TheBeerGod (6253) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - JUL 21, 2006
Draft at the Downtown location during the RBSG DC Pub Crawl. Rusty amber. Nose is spicy, fruity and flowery. Lots of peppery spices in the taste, light caramel, soft ginger, grass, and fruit. Body is medium and smooth with moderate carbonation. Finishes peppery, fruity and yeasty with more malt and flowers. jasonp (1581) - Ashburn, Virginia, USA - JUL 23, 2006
Draft, Cap City Downtown RBSG 2006. Clear copper with a white head. Caramel, some grass, and light spice in the nose. Flavor has notes of spiciness, pepper, a touch of flowers and caramel. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and moderate carbonation. Solid, drinkable stuff. beaconstreet (811) - Washington DC, USA - JUL 24, 2006
Somewhat spicy, wafty on the nostrils. Hefty in appearance. One will probably do for this beer.
