COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An English style robust Porter with huge malt notes from Chocolate and Black malt matched with a huge use of Crystal malt to lend ruby hues to the corners of the glass. This dark brew is then highly hopped with imported Northdown and First Gold hops to lend a subtle earthiness in character.

On tap at the Capitol Hill location. Pours a nice clean deep brown almost black with a nice fluffy beige head. Aroma is moslty chocolate and nuts with light fruity hints and a sharp dry acrid burnt character. Lots of dark malt flavor- some chocolate, light burnt hint, lightly fruity and finishes relatively nutty and dry. Good smooth mouthfeel. Well made porter.

On tap at the downtown pub. Dark beer with mahogany hints around the edges. Roast grain nose with some plum. Caramel sweetness with a roast grain astringency and some sour cherry and plum fruit. The finish is sweetened coffee.

Sweet aroma, malty. Dark red body, almost black with a small ivory head. Body is like an old, watered-down coffee with some clover.

This one is weak and watery, lacing anyof the rich vinous flavors blending with roast that I appreciate in a porter. Instead we get some mouth-drying bitterness, hints of roast in the aroma, and a beer that is perhaps best compared to drinking the ice water dregs that melt down in bottom of a finished ice coffee.

Drank an entire growler of this in an hour and I could have gone for two or three. Roasted aroma. Dark black, slightly watery with a whispy white head. Roasted flavor is subtle, coffee finish. Smooth and clean.

Draft @ Capitol City Downtown Dark brown, black, tan head, nice lacing. Nose of sweet fruity, mild roast, low astringency. Nice coffee, light chocolate. The flavor is more astringent, but still tasty.

A red-brown beer with a thin brown head - rather light in color for a Porter. The aroma is rather sweet with notes of roasted malt and seaweed. The flavor is sweet with a light roasted character, and a very smooth mouthfeel - it reminds me more of a Dry Irish Stout than a Porter. The body is thin.

Draft, Cap City Downtown RBSG 2006. Dark clear brown with a light brown head. Very, very light whiff of roastiness, not much else. Light flavor of roasted malt, a little chocolate and coffee. Something’s missing here. Thin, watery body with light carbonation. Good lacing and head retention. Needs more malt character.

On tap, Downtown location, 2006 RBSG pubcrawl. Pours a clear brown with a small film of creamy light brown head. Aroma is of chocolate malt, with some light hops, and a touch of coffee. Flavor is pretty nice, chocolate malt, light roast, and a pleasant bitterness. Lighter bodied with a thinner than average texture and light carbonation. Overall, the best of the Downtown locations offerings the day I was there. It wasn’t much for mouthfeel, but the flavor was pleasant. A lighter effort.

3fourths (9349) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 19, 2006
Dark brown, soft red-hued brown colors at the sides of the glass. Medium dark brown head with large soda-like bubbles contained therein. Thinner than expected, flavorless up front, then hitting a bit hard over the tongue with brash smoked malts, leaving a reside in the aftertastes of campfire smoke and cherries. Thin body, weak overall. Decent smokiness, but not a decent porter by any stretch. Has some light cream notes in the nose, noticed more when it had warmed. Sampled at Capitol City in Baltimore.
