Enjoyed at the Capitol Hill brewpub. This beer pours a dark brown tone with a nice tan head. Great lacing. Aroma is roasted notes with chocolate and a bit of tart hops. Flavor is also chocolate an coffee. Those roasted notes keep coming. Well balanced. A delightful beer. gws57 (1276) - Saint Charles, Illinois, USA - JUN 29, 2009
Had this one on draught at the brewpub near Union Station in Washington, D.C. Hazy dark brown pour with a light brown head, chocolate malty nose, a nice creamy chocolate and malt flavor, smooth finish, very nice. alexanderj (3605) - Branson, Missouri, USA - MAY 31, 2009
On tap. Color was a dark brown. Aroma of roasted malt, cocoa, caramel. Flavor was a bit hoppier than expected. Roasted malt with some earth and chalk. Solid brewpub porter. WeeHeavySD (3387) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 16, 2009
Tap at Downtown Location. Pours black with a tan ring. Nose is sweet and malty. Taste is sweet and malty with some coffee, second best of the night. GT (10017) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 16, 2009
On tap at the brewpub in downtown. Pours a deep ruby with a thin, but creamy tan head that has good retention and spotty lacing. Aroma of coffee grinds, semisweet chocolate, roasted malt. Taste has a bit of a meaty and smoky body with chocolate-covered cherries. Bitter hops in the finish. Medium-bodied. A bit astringent but the smokiness and chocolate really bring this porter alive. Very good- a nice surprise.

Aroma: Chocolate, Chocolate, and more Chocolate
Appearance: Dark brown/black, thin dark white head
Flavor: The chocolate dominates this well balanced porter, slight underlying earthy tones
Palate: Smooth, drinkable, medium body
Pretty enjoyable beer. I enjoyed the balance of the sweetness (coco and coffee) with the porter hops.
Draught at the downtown location. Dark brown with a beige head. Sweet malt aroma with a bit of roast. Light smoky, burnt malt and thin coffee flavor, with more sweetness developing further in and a mildly bitter finish. The body was pretty thin, which is my main complaint; it just didn’t feel like a good porter. Brigadier (3750) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - JAN 5, 2009
On tap at brewpub
**Summary** - The last of the beers in the sampler tray this was also probably the best of the regular offerings here. If pressed I could order half price pints of this and be quite happy to spend an afternoon.
**Aroma / Appearance** - Murky black, it exuded a light smokiness like you get the day after a bonfire. Meaty malts support the experience giving the whole thing the feel of a smokehouse.
**Flavor / Palate** - Fluid at all times it washes smoothly over the tongue and throat. Along the way come smoke, chocolate, and black coffee. Very solid for a porter this is almost more like a stout. Travlr (26091) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - DEC 10, 2008
Tasted more like a stout, smoky coffee and chocolate flavored, very full body, almost black in color, somewhat bitter finish. Fair.
