3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Capitol City, Downtown location in July 2006. Reddish colour. Plenty of bitter coffee in the aroma and flavour. Rather light body. Quite strong hop presence. More toasty than roasty. Pleasant enough but not that robust - could use a little more depth and body.
Tap at the brewery. Reddish dark brown with tan head. Sharp nose of malt, chocolate and vanilla. Very smooth palate with medium body. Cocoa and some red berries acid I think is contamination in this context. Cybercat (6206) - Georgia, USA - SEP 17, 2017
Taps opaque dark chocolate with a thin beige head. Aroma features toasted malt, toffee and molasses notes. Flavor delivers molasses, roasted malt, toffee, and subtle chocolate notes for one tasty porter. Mouthfeel presents fair body and fizz. Bleep Prohibition, long live BEER! Sampled on draft the brewpub this beer poured a very dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head that left excellent lacing. The aroma was bitter with a coffee presence. The flavor was dry and bitter with notes of coffee, anise and dark fruit. Long finish. Medium bodied and smooth. ok. dwyerpg (6432) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JUL 1, 2017
Creamy, a tad swert, a nice flavor with some chocolate malt. A porter I’d have again. RedSox2004 (1977) - Pacific Palisades, California, USA - FEB 8, 2017
On tap downtown. Mahogany brown with a thin tan head that left a nice film and spotty lace. Aromas of coffee, semisweet chocolate, roasted malt. Taste is similar, with a bit of smoke and dark fruit and bitterness in the finish. Medium-bodied, minimal carbonation, smooth mouthfeel and a dry finish.

Draught @ the brewpub, Downtown DC. Pours cloudy very dark brown with small off-white head. Clear aroma of malt and yeast, with roasty notes. Bitter, roasty flavour wih notes of malt and yeast and touches of coffee and hops. Estery and roasty aftertaste. Decent. GenDV138 (7759) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - JUN 12, 2016
4 oz pour on draft at Capitol City Shirlington. Dark brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, roast. Tastes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasty notes. Medium body with a dry finish. Liked it. altonbrownd (5897) - Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA - MAY 14, 2016
On tap at downtown location. Dark brown body with no head. Nose is malty, chocolate. Taste is also of malts, chocolate, spices. Smoky. Creamy texture. For some reason my least favorite of the 5 beers. Not sure why but I just couldn’t take to this one. Drjohnrock (841) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 25, 2016
Draft sampler at the Capitol Hill location on July 11, 2009. Very dark, almost opaque color, aroma off dark roasted malt and coffee, nice flavor of coffee for the most part with a bit of a chemical taste marring things a little. Still, not a bad brew. bytemesis (9327) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - MAR 22, 2016
Tap. Pours hazy mahogany, medium tan head, good lacing. Aroma is roasty, ashtray. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, really roasty, coffee, astray. Lightish body and a bit watery.
