Smells strongly of pumpkin and pumpkin spice. Even pours to the color of a pumpkin, albeit a pumpkin with virtually no head. The taste has quite a bit of pumpkin in it, although it comes close to being overpowered by strong spices. The fatal flaw in an otherwise perfect beer is the extreme dryness and pucker factor that comes with the excessive spice, leading one to need a glass of water to go with the beer. Good with dessert, but don't drink it alone. Cletus (6368) - Connecticut, USA - NOV 10, 2009
Growler courtesy of billab914. Pours copper with a reddish tint and a lasting, tan head. Smells of spice, caramel, some citrus, sweet. Tastes of fresh pumpkins, some spicy elements, light citrus, earthy. Full bodied and enjoyable. Drake (14078) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 13, 2009
The name makes me think this should be a pumpkin doppelbock. That concept intrigues me. Sampled on draft at the Shirlington brewpub. Pours a hazy orange color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is very spicy with cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg. Actually reminiscent of eggnog. Also notes of lime and pumpkin. Taste is a very similar spice mix to the aroma along with pumpkin. Slightly tart finish. Medium bodied. radagast83 (8476) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - NOV 16, 2009
Appearance was an moderately hazy full orange color with a small head. Aroma full of pumpkin spice, with notes of pumpkin pie spices: cinnamon, nutmeg. Pumpkin taste, again, with the associated pumpkin pie flavors. Not the best pumpkin beer I’ve had, but certainly the best new one of the season and something to pick out if you like such things if you see it on tap. Growler from dkachur! Thanks, for my last state/DC rating to complete the US! Nose is heavy with pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves. Cloudy orange with a medium yellowish beige head. Flavor is pumpkin pie with some bitterness that does show through. Finish is lightly bitter. Not my favorite pumpkin ale but quite decent! ApisAles (1575) - Greenbelt, Maryland, USA - DEC 5, 2009
On Draft at the Capitol Hill location. Aroma is nice roasted pumpkin, some toasted bread, sweet malt and a nice kick of pumpkin pie spice. Flavor is similar, some good pumpkin notes and spice notes with nothing being to overwhelming. nice autumn seasonal. travita (5008) - Dallas, Texas, USA - DEC 29, 2009
Growler thanks to bman1113vr. The look is clear, yellow orange in color, and has an ok white head. The smell is squash, malts, grains, and pumpkin. The taste is pumpkin, very grainy, malts, and squash. BMan1113VR (7929) - Los Angeles, California, USA - NOV 23, 2009
Growler dkachur. Thanks for the DC rate (and, yes, Dallas Crew, I did handbottle you some). Hazy orange pour with a slowly fading off-white head. Good lace. Spice, eggnog, soap, pumpkin cookie aroma. Taste is dry and a bit bitter/astringent finish. Spicy and wheaty. Nutmeg. Decent. Dry mouthfeel, medium bubbles. mar (5444) - Dallas, Texas, USA - DEC 8, 2009
