Batch 1 (2008) and Batch 2 (2010) of Captain Lawrence’s Extra Gold aged in apple brandy barrels. There’s nothing quite likes Mom’s apple pie…But I am willing to bet this beer is pretty darn close. An American Tripel, dry-hoped with Amarillo hops and aged in Apple Brandy barrels from one of this country’s oldest distilleries. The tropical aroma of the hops and the delicate apple aroma from the barrels are a perfect match

12oz bottle (2014) from WineWorks (Marlton). Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a finger of foamy white head. Big boozy aroma of Apple brandy, with some notes of caramel, cinnamon, and wood. Taste of rotted apples, earthy hops, grass, brandy, wood, and lots of warming alcohol burn.

On tap at The Ginger Man, New York, NY. A light golden coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Sweet, fruity, yeasty, Belgian aroma. Tastes similar, sweet, fruity, apple, yeasty, and quite Belgian in character.

bobaidan (530) - Southington, Connecticut, USA - OCT 5, 2014
Pours gold with a smallish head of white bubbles. Aroma kind of smells like an apple wine. I bit thick in mouth feel, but lots of bubbles. Flavor is very boozy with apple undertones and a sweetness up front. After taste is actually really good with a lingering apple presence. I like it.

Pine Box Rock Shop, Brooklyn tap: Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is strange, definitely like nothing that I had before. Plenty of sugar, pie, some hops. The taste is what I didn’t really like. I found this beer generally hard to stomach. It seemed to me to be just too much of something. It wasn’t exactly the high alcohol content. Nor was it too much apple brandy. It was something about the whole package that just didn’t speak to me.

Bottle, bottled on 17-09-2014, really fresh. Pours a clear gold pour with white head. Aroma is really calvados forward, bright calvados profile, apple brandy, oaky notes, light vanilla, fruity boozy notes. Taste of calvados, nice apple flavor, discreet Belgian yeast, very clean flavor profile, crisp grain, really well attenuated. Palate is full bodied with good carbonation. Solid beer, very clean and very drinkable for the ABV (11% on this bottle).

Boutip (6380) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 28, 2014
Bottle: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of lightly sweet Belgian malt with light apple brandy notes. Taste is a very drinkable mix of Belgian malt with light residual candi sugar notes and some light Brandy notes also noticeable. Body is full with good carbonation. I quite enjoyed that one with loads of nice drinkability notes and the Brandy notes rounding off some of rough edges.

cfrancis (3453) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 16, 2014
Pours light gold with a small white top. Aroma is yeast, sweet tart apple and some oak. Taste is a great balance of yeast, malt with the sweetness of the apple brandy and the dryness from the oak.

A hazed golden ale with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity apple malt with light Brett, musty character, woody notes, very nice. In mouth, a rather raspy apple malt with cork and cognac alcohol, interesting. Bottle from Cfrancis.
