Batch 1 (2008) and Batch 2 (2010) of Captain Lawrences Extra Gold aged in apple brandy barrels. Theres nothing quite likes Moms apple pieBut I am willing to bet this beer is pretty darn close. An American Tripel, dry-hoped with Amarillo hops and aged in Apple Brandy barrels from one of this countrys oldest distilleries. The tropical aroma of the hops and the delicate apple aroma from the barrels are a perfect match

Pine Box Rock Shop, Brooklyn tap: Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is strange, definitely like nothing that I had before. Plenty of sugar, pie, some hops. The taste is what I didnt really like. I found this beer generally hard to stomach. It seemed to me to be just too much of something. It wasnt exactly the high alcohol content. Nor was it too much apple brandy. It was something about the whole package that just didnt speak to me.

Bottle, bottled on 17-09-2014, really fresh. Pours a clear gold pour with white head. Aroma is really calvados forward, bright calvados profile, apple brandy, oaky notes, light vanilla, fruity boozy notes. Taste of calvados, nice apple flavor, discreet Belgian yeast, very clean flavor profile, crisp grain, really well attenuated. Palate is full bodied with good carbonation. Solid beer, very clean and very drinkable for the ABV (11% on this bottle).

Bottle: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of lightly sweet Belgian malt with light apple brandy notes. Taste is a very drinkable mix of Belgian malt with light residual candi sugar notes and some light Brandy notes also noticeable. Body is full with good carbonation. I quite enjoyed that one with loads of nice drinkability notes and the Brandy notes rounding off some of rough edges.

Pours light gold with a small white top. Aroma is yeast, sweet tart apple and some oak. Taste is a great balance of yeast, malt with the sweetness of the apple brandy and the dryness from the oak.

A hazed golden ale with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity apple malt with light Brett, musty character, woody notes, very nice. In mouth, a rather raspy apple malt with cork and cognac alcohol, interesting. Bottle from Cfrancis.

Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow. Aroma is apple brandy. Theres a lot of spicy apple and woodiness up front, but the back end is mostly booze, which knocks a few points off for me. Interesting, but may not try again.

Bottled 10/7/2013, from Half Time, drunk 2/7/14
Slightly gushing, leading to a humongous white head, that is very well-retained topping a soft copper-amber body with a touch of haziness and plentiful tiny bubbles rising. Nice lacing.
Before even going for my glass, the brett (and apple!) waft out of the glass very enticingly. Not alcoholic and quite a nice combination of both. At this point only a touch of the fruitiness from the amarillo is noticeable, and quite integrated with the fruity yeast esters. Very juicy, soft and complex aroma, with the apple notes being quite delicious, as advertised. No fusels, no sharp tannins...Pretty phenomenal.
Brett acids quickly wash over the palate, lots of band-aid and light lemon, which transition seemlessly to a dry wood tannin and lightly alcoholic apple brandy flavor. All the while, the body is dextrinous and malty enough to support the alcohol and barrel character without being even a bit too sweet. Tight carbonation keeps it fairly crisp, even, while the acids and wood keep it very dry on the end.
Though there is certainly a bit of astringency and light alcohol apparent, the barrel character is so well-balanced and the apple comes through perfectly flavorful. Impressively soft, nearly creamy texture makes it very drinkable and the brett and amarillo are just icing on the cake. Really enjoyable! Much better than the batch 1 draft I had back at its debut at EBF 08 (if I remember correctly). That one was pretty flat, too alcoholic and sharply tannic, with nowhere near as developed malt or brett.
