Pours pitch black and completely opaque with a two finger beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lacing left behind.
The aroma of this beer is dominated by a heavy smoked malt presence that overpowers the brandy barrel character. I don’t know if it’s because they made this imperial, but the smoke presence is really strong and the apple brandy notes that are so pleasant in the regular version are almost undetectable. I’m a huge smoke head so I’m not going to complain too much but it would be nice to pick up some of the brandy. There is some toasted oak but the nose is overwhelmingly smokey with hints of campfire, charcoal, smoked meat, ash and burnt toast. Really nice but could use something else for balance, especially in a BA beer.
On the fuller end of medium bodied with a subtle brandy barrel character that is faintly integrated into the flavor of intensely smoked malts. There is a sweet calvados character that gives of vinous and green apple flavor but that is quickly countered by toasted oak and almost burnt malt. Pretty dry but never becomes acrid with luscious smoked malt and subtle chocolate cake sweetness. Hints of charcoal, barbecued bacon, burnt toast, liquid smoke and ash followed by oatmeal and dark chocolate sweetness. There is some nice brandy flavor but the high ABV is very well masked, and although this beer is pretty intense, I’m loving the peated, smokey flavor and find it very easy to drink. mabel (9787) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 21, 2014

not as awesome as i had hoped. Lots of apple brandy flavors and not much body. Thin and sharp, the last two qualities I am looking for in a barrel aged bru. Also, this is a fresh bottle yet it was oxidized. :( jercraigs (10886) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 21, 2014
2014-08-15. Very dark brown body with a small tan head. 3++ Aroma is lightly smokey over a modest malty core. Flavour is similar, lightly fruity throughout, apple if you look for it. Moderate smoke over a dark malt core. Smooth average plus bodied palate, soft carbonation. Decent but not really to my own tastes. Bottle at Campground Brewdown

Bottle... Tar-black pour with a small, frothy, beige head. Decent retention. The aroma is smoky with a nice fudge component and a hint of fruity apple brandy. Full-bodied with airy carbonation. The flavor is a mélange of charcoal, campfire smoke and alcohol. Finishes coarse, scorched and acrid. Bottle courtesy of mikeq215! UDBeernut (2883) - Saint Johns, Florida, USA - JUL 28, 2014
Growler pours dark, ruby edges. Minimal head leaves slightly soapy lacing. Big apple brandy nose, some booze mid wiff. Taste is begins sweet from the brandy, mild smoke hits mid sip and continues past the finish. Some cherry, plum linger on the finish. Full body. Booze does not burn but is deffinatly there as a I am super psyched for another agonizing move. nimbleprop (8750) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - JUL 24, 2014
75cl bottle I picked up at the brewery pours a hazy, mahogany amber with some sudsy, off white head. Nose has quite a bit of earthy peat, malt, licorice, some cold smoke, a little bit of barbeque sauce, some licorice, some rubber. Not a whole lot of barrel in the nose. The barrel character comes out a bit more in the flavor, some fairly heavy char, some vanillin, some grape jelly, some toast, some licorice, a little ketchup, smoked salmon, earthy, some sawdust, a little bit of bourbon. Full bodied, smokey, sweet finish. bp (923) - New York, New York, USA - JUL 18, 2014
Bottle: pours dark black with a thin tan head, nice light smokey, chocolate, malty aroma, taste is not too sweet, a touch of some bitterness and just some light smokiness in the finish. I’m not a huge fan of smoked beers, this one does it right by making it more subtle. johnnnniee (4411) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - JUN 13, 2014
Bottle shared tonight by Dr Rob, thanks for the opportunity!
Huge smokey campfire with hints of chocolate and caramel offset with some woody apple brandy notes. Very nice brew.
