A complex beer, with layers of flavors unfolding as this beer slides down your throat. Before the introduction of indirect-fired malt kilns, all beers had a smoky flavor. Today only a handful of brewers produce beer reminiscent of those of the past. We use imported German smoked malt to add depth and complexity to our Smoked Porter. Sensory Profile: Aromas of smoked wood, licorice, and dark fruit. The flavor is a balance of smokiness, roasted malt, coffee, and malty sweetness.

Food Pairing: A natural match for any smoked or grilled meats. The smoky flavor of the meat and the unique smoky flavor of the beer blend beautifully to elevate the enjoyment of them both.

Pours a burnt umber color with a finger of khaki foam. Nice balance of roasted, bittersweet cocoa and well integrated smoke. Layers of ash, bakers chocolate and some composted earthiness.

bottle received from tgncc in trade. I liked this more than most. I was out on smoked beers, but this one was done with the right amount of smoke - not overpowering and underneath is just a damn good porter. taste was cola, smoke, malt, high carbonation. good stuff. would drink again!

Bottle. Sweet chocolate aroma, with dark fruit leavings and very light smoke. Medium dark brown color. Some good roast, chocolate, ripe and slightly rude dark fruit. Light fruit finish. Thin-medium body. Somewhat tasty. Quite thin-bodied stuff, with very little smoke. Underdone overall.

kerenmk (5358) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - MAR 17, 2014
Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks troubles. Brown-black with tan head. Vinous and rich smokiness in the nose, a little dry, roast, smoke and sweet undertones in the mouth. Smooth, full-bodied, slightly roasted finish.

keanex (1799) - Atco, New Jersey, USA - MAR 7, 2014
On-tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: Deep opaque chestnut body with a creamy tan head. The head has good retention forming a creamy coating.
Aroma: Mild smoked meats with perhaps a hint of hickory backed by semi-sweet chocolate and hints of brown sugar. Good strength, appealing.
Taste: The smoke runs throughout being a prominent and center flavor. Hints of licorice underlie it with semi-sweet chocolate, slightly smoked meat finish that lingers as well. Very slight burnt malt flavor. Very nice.
Palate: Full-bodied with mild to moderate carbonation.
Overall: This is a very drinkable smoked porter that doesn’t overpower the malts with smokiness. The flavor is really cohesive. Well done smoked porter.
