4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
I opened the bottle of Xtra Gold on my coffee table, turned around to grab a glass and within a minute the carbonation had overflowed the bottle and onto the table. The bubbles continued to foam out and over the bottle and make a horrible mess of my coffee table.
The rest of the experience with the Xtra Gold was great! Very flavorful, complex, and delicious! The best Captain Lawrence brew I’ve had yet!
Pours a hazy gold with a thin white lacing of head. Aroma is peppery with banana, pear and mango. Definitely some belgian phenols going on with some fruity hops.
Taste is sweet and honeylike up front, followed up with stone fruit and pear following it up. Finishes spicy and clean with a light lingering bitterness. djd07 (14369) - Houston, Texas, USA - JUN 16, 2015
Bottle. Pours a clear gold with thick white head that lasts leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is honey and yeast. Medium mouth, fruity, light spice, citrus, hides alcohol well, good. ClarkVV (6643) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - APR 13, 2015
750mL bottle bought from brewery 12/28/14 and drunk fairly shortly thereafterrederic (3335) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 21, 2015
Initially large white head tops a sparkling golden-copper body that is very clear. Hmmm...almost too clear. As suspected, no sediment whatsoever at the bottom. Which is fine, I guess, but was hoping this would be unfiltered (or less filtered, anyways).
Fruity esters mix with leafy, fragrant hops. Amarillos are one of my favorite American hops and they are fine here, if a bit unexciting. Little bit of tangerine, mint, touches of white grapefruit and tons of yellow fruits from the yeast (pineapple, nectarines, peaches). Alcohol heat is definitely felt, though not raw or overpowering, while the malts seem a bit absent. Very dry crackers, white bread and a touch of honey mixing with the alcohol and esters to give sort of a marmalade note.
The flavor comes off heavily peachy; moreso, even, as it warms. Sort of a bittersweet component, with light pineapple, alcohol warmth and touches of black pepper. Hops aren’t too bitter, thankfully and there’s some malt sugar to lend balance, but it’s a bit messy, coming off lightly syrupy and yet grainy/husky as well. Carbonation is initially engaging, if somewhat prickly, but falls off too quickly, leaving the beer feeling a bit flabby and exposing the syrupy and boozey qualities. Could easily be a top notch beer if this wasn’t so filtered and the alcohol was dialed back even 1%. The lack of bottle conditioning really detracts here.
750ml bottle, slight hazy honey gold hue, with a white head. Nice fruity belgian yeast nose, with light a floral leafy, grassy, piney, coniferous hop, honeyed pale, toasted, pilsener, bready malt accent, with some citrus, grapefruit esters, and a faint lemon pie crust, panettone cake dough, phenolic note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a fruity, doughy, yeasty, faint funky, flowery citrus, leafy, grassy hoppy character, with some fait spicy pepper lemon, honeyed pale, wheat, toasted, bread malty, subtle candyish honey lollipop, candied lemon, grapefruit rind flavours, leading towards a honeyish maltiness, lingering citrus, leafy hop bitterness finish. orvalgold (49) - Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 30, 2014
A yellow hay color extremely cloudy, decent head retention lingers. Black pepper yeast aromatics, soft peachy fruit aromatics and sweet honey. The flavor on this thing is huge fruit mango, peach hop flavor. Overall very drinkable, American triple fully appreciate the unique play of this style.

(bottle - 750 ml) Cloudy orange pour with a fizzy white head. Fruity and yeasty aroma. Not much else to it. Some hop bitterness in the flavor but predominantly fruit, honey and yeast with some spice coming up at the end. htzpah (105) - - JUN 12, 2014
A bit medicinal for a Belgium tripel style. Pretty clear hay notes, vey strong alcohol flavor. jmagnus87 (2912) - Rockford, Illinois, USA - JUN 11, 2014
Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear gold with minimal white head. Aroma of fruit, Belgian yeast and a little burnt diesel. Taste is light bitter. Earthy herbal and citrus with Belgian yeast and some butterscotch. Full bodied with a somewhat thin and slick texture. Lively carbonation and a super long finish. Overall, pretty darn good. joet (2604) - Wilsonville, Oregon, USA - JUN 4, 2014
