330 ml. bottle. BBD 28 Oct. 17. Pours a medium, well retained ivory head, with extensive lacing over a clear light brown (SRM 18) body........nose is moderate malts, with mild toffee/caramel tones, minimal esters, no hops, balance to the malts.......taste is toasted malts, with very mild toffee/caramel, light grain, dry throughout, mild lingering hop bitterness on the finish, balanced......mouth feel, medium light body, no alcohol, hints of astringency, moderate carbonation. This is on the dry,moderately bitter end of the style. It is ever so slightly harsh, compared to other Irish Red Ales. A bit more caramel/crystal and a different, or slightly lighter hop quantity would correct. It is quite clean and continues as an easy drinker. 500ml bottle. Clear dark copper color. Medium size, beige-yellowish head, stays. Sweet, caramel, dirty, damp old grass, malty in aroma. Caramel, herbal grassy hops which are very old, some old dried plums and/or raisins in taste. Milky, caramel and old grass in aftertaste. Medium carbonation. Draft pint from The Irish Rover. Aroma: Mostly caramel biscuit with a little woodsy hop note. Appearance: Slightly hazy copper red with a foamy tan head that sticks around. Flavor: Biscuity, semi-sweet malts up front with earthy hops, more drying than bitter, coming in thereafter; the finish is semi-dry. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Dead simple, but clean and sessionable.
