A traditional light hop flavour balances the sweet malty caramel taste. The addition of a pinch of roast barley during the brewing process lends a distinctive roast bite which is balanced by a crisp dry medium bitterness.

500ml bottle enjoyed after work watching the football! Pours a very nice deep, dark brownish red with a one finger frothy beige head that leaves a nice lacing and a little clinging head. Aroma is slightly metallic with an amount of caramel and a little straw and bread (improved as the beer warmed up a couple of degrees). Taste is better, a delicate balance of bready sweetness and redcurrant bitterness. Aftertaste is abrupt, mostly light caramel, with medium body and reasonably lively carbonation. A pretty decent red ale, but nothing entirely remarkable.

Una normale bitter in stile irlandese, si sente bene la parte caramellata, il uppolo è in equilibrio col malto.

330 ml. bottle. BBD 28 Oct. 17. Pours a medium, well retained ivory head, with extensive lacing over a clear light brown (SRM 18) body........nose is moderate malts, with mild toffee/caramel tones, minimal esters, no hops, balance to the malts.......taste is toasted malts, with very mild toffee/caramel, light grain, dry throughout, mild lingering hop bitterness on the finish, balanced......mouth feel, medium light body, no alcohol, hints of astringency, moderate carbonation. This is on the dry, moderately bitter end of the style. It is ever so slightly harsh, compared to other Irish Red Ales. A bit more caramel/crystal and a different, or slightly lighter hop quantity would correct. It is quite clean and continues as an easy drinker. BJCP 5/3/12/3/6

500ml bottle. Clear dark copper color. Medium size, beige-yellowish head, stays. Sweet, caramel, dirty, damp old grass, malty in aroma. Caramel, herbal grassy hops which are very old, some old dried plums and/or raisins in taste. Milky, caramel and old grass in aftertaste. Medium carbonation. BB is good for another couple months, but whole thing tastes old. Poor brew.

Draft pint from The Irish Rover. Aroma: Mostly caramel biscuit with a little woodsy hop note. Appearance: Slightly hazy copper red with a foamy tan head that sticks around. Flavor: Biscuity, semi-sweet malts up front with earthy hops, more drying than bitter, coming in thereafter; the finish is semi-dry. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Dead simple, but clean and sessionable. I don’t think many people would nerd out over this, but it’s a nice beer to go with conversation and traditional Irish food.
