a modest wheat, it pours almost clear, with a tawny boxer-dog colored hue. a dismal head-- if id have gone bald this quickly, id have cut my throat. not enough foam left after a minute to impress a spittle bug. for the aroma, carmel features a likeness of grape and orange drizzled grass, white beans, and a bit of well-worn tuperwear. i tried to pry out of it some classic banana, gum or clovey notes, but without a 36" crow bar, i guess it cant be done. nice carbonation for a quencher, but with a bittersweet taste that caused my brow to knit and lip to curl. some dank grains, with more of the grape and citrus. lightly acidic-- and while not enough to corrode a battery terminal-- it seems strange for a hefe unless they supplied a lemon wedge right in the bottle. the last pour did produce some yeast and residue, adding perhaps a saving measure of depth. its a strange wheat/pale ale cross over, with not quite enough qualities of either to engender much enthusiasm, an endorphin, or even an appreciative sigh.

Bottle from Monterey Tides in Seaside, CA. Aroma is light banana, mild caramel. Taste is mild and creamy banana. Soft carbonation. Not especially great but very drinkable.

Bottle at Asilomar.

Its very hard to complain about free beer when you are chilling on the beach at Asilomar. So I wont complain. This was perfectly drinkable, not too much banana or anything, and Im pretty sure it had beer in it.

light citrus aroma; soft, light wheat base with mild citrus hop notes; much more of an American style wheat - no banana or clove notes typical of a hefeweizen

Keg at A.W.Shucks, Carmel, 30/04/14. Lightly hazed golden orange with a moderate white swirl and edgework. Nose is citric rinds, lemon, ornage peel, straw. Taste is pretty bland, citric forward, grass, light spice, metallic rinse. Medium bodied, prickly carbonation, crisp close. Pretty blah, rates a rate ! More mediocrity from Menodcino!

Was going to buy a sam adams but I figured I'd try something new, at Flaherty's in Carmel... Wish I hadn't... Golden yellow, watery flavor with a hint of sweetness, minimal to no wheat richness, very disappointing... Don't waste your time. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thanks jcwattsrugger for the share. Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Nose is bread with some slight citrus, hops, and banana. Flavor is similar. Light body and so-so overall.

Courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Pours a deep gold color with thin white head. The aroma is wheat and vague sweetness to go along with some floral and spicy hops. The taste is smooth with wheat, a touch of roast and faint spicy to citrus to floral hops. All the while I also get a thin layer of graininess off in the background.
