One of Michael Jacksons 500 Classic Brews. Carnegie Porter was brewed for the first time in 1836 and tastes the same today as it did then. Carnegie Porter has a creamy head with a scent of coffee. Its sweet and wellrounded flavor is balanced by the bitterness of the hops. Storage helps the flavor mature and enhances its harmony.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance The beer pours a dark brown color with two fingers of a cream colored head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a sweeter molasses and caramel smell along with some other nice roasty notes. Along with these smells comes some darker fruit aromas of prune and plum as well as some other aromas of chocolate and a little bit of a grainy smell. Taste The taste begins with a smooth and sweet taste with lots of caramel and chocolate mixed with a little bit of a dark fruit flavors of plum and prune. Other notes of a roasted malt taste are also present upfront, creating a nice smooth base flavor for the brew. As the taste advances the fruit fades a little bit all while more and more caramel and chocolate as well as some molasses comes to the tongue. With a hint of vanilla and a tiny bit of an herbal flavor coming at the very end, one is left with a sweet and smooth, roasty flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. For the porter style and the darker but sweet flavors of the brew, the feel is rather nice and makes for a flavorful, but easy drinking porter overall. Overall This is a very nice easy drinking porter at of only 5.5 %. A quite tasty brew overall and one to try if you have the opportunity.

11.2 oz bottle from Mile High Wine & Spirits. Black appearance with a light tan head. Dark malts, chocolate, coffee, toffee, earthy hops and light caramel. Medium body with a nice feel. Solid porter, sadly my first Swedish tick apparently.

bottle @ Party Source / Bellevue KY --- Opaque black/brown with a solid beige head cover, sheets of lace. Taste is roasted malt that turns toward bitter in the swallow, returning to a semi-sweet in a lingering finish. True to its dark malt, a solid, smooth, great drinking brew. Recommended.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Believe this to be the same beer, label slightly different, "klassIII", 2013. Not quite opaque brown, cream head fades. Aroma lager, toasty, raisin. Taste nutty, raisin, rootbeer, brewed coffee. Slightly sweet in the middle. Palate about right, that is, not thin, but not imperial thick either. Carbonation soft and fine. This is excellent. Putting the taste back in lager!
