1997 Vintage, Bottle: Pours black with no head. Aroma is a pungent syrupy sweet malt that is a bit off putting. The flavor is much better. An ashy roast, a slight chocolate syrupy sweetness, some meat and herbs in the finish. Decent porter but I couldn’t see drinking to much of it. Sammy (12760) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 3, 2005
1997 edition. A very smooth porter, with some sourness. Very Black and very roasty and other herbs, including fennel aroma and possibly peppermint i tsarman (794) - Northern, New Jersey, USA - MAR 25, 2005
A delicious porter from Sveden. Odor de wet dog, coffee, cigarrettes, smoke and chocolate. Some sweetness, tho I did not notice as much as some raters have said. Great aftertaste, though odd carbonation after a while. A fine brew in many regards. Unsure why this would age well as the bottle and other raters say as it is very low in alcohol. Opinions? Based on other ratings, I’m almost certain that I had a bad bottle of this beer. Mine had NO head to speak of to complement its nearly black color. Nose was fantastic...but flavor was very weak and flat. I’ll have to try this again, hopefully with better luck. Magjayran (1379) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAR 22, 2005
Thick head. Very dark beer with only a little hint of deep brown showing when held to light. Hints of chocalate and some caramel in the aroma. Has a nice malty taste with some chocolate aftertaste. Good but not great beer.

Dark Opaque body with marvelous head. Molasses and roast aroma. Thick burned palate. Nice beer for a St-Patrick! Thanks to Eructoblaster for this one. legion242 (2348) - Richardson, Texas, USA - MAR 17, 2005
Probably one of the better porters I have ever had. It is missing all of the ashy-ness that I normally associate with the style- might have to do with this one being European instead of American. auerbrau (3206) - Ithaca, New York, USA - MAR 9, 2005
UPDATED: MAY 19, 2005 Pitch black with lots of tan head. Nice broken sheets of lacing. Herbaceous, malty alcoholic aromas. Chcolately and almost sea salty, with a succulent savory burst. Very creamy and rich. Palate is smooth and fulfilling, like good chocolate cherry bread. A little metallic aftertaste brings this one down for me. aspidites (1271) - manteca, California, USA - MAR 4, 2005
anise and roasted chocalate upfront with a creamy mouthfeel and avery longlasting dry finish. Rasins andPlums roundout this very nice Baltic porter. ukoolaid (580) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 3, 2005
Bottle. Very dark brown color with decent sized brown head. Aroma is malty with a hint of dark fruit. Taste is smooth and malty with a little roast. Pretty decent, but nothing to write home about.
