UPDATED: SEP 4, 2006 060902: Changed my rating. Had a bottle from 2004, stored for 2 years. Still black with a brownish head. This beer really grows with time. Wonderful soft malty chocolate aroma, even better flavor, chocolate, mailky and with a perfect palate. Very, very good. I recommend everyone to but a lot of bottles and then store them...
Also, without adding it to my rating, I just loved the 1986 verision of this beer that was sold at the Stockholm Beer Festival 2004... mkobes (2142) - paramus, New Jersey, USA - SEP 3, 2003
UPDATED: FEB 25, 2006 Almost black in color. Enjoyable. I really liked this beer. It has a great aroma. Its malty and roasty. It has a nice thick body. Its pours with a nice full head. apoptosis (1317) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 11, 2004
Thick and rich and chewy and chocolatey and creamy and coffee-filled and a very nice, full-bodied porter indeed. The aroma is mildly coffee and cream, and the finish is perfectly smooth. One of the best porters I've had in a long time. eboats (1082) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUL 26, 2004
UPDATED: MAR 4, 2006 Bottled 2001. Pour black with little head. Had a nutty roasted aroma with some hint of chocolate, coffee, and fig. Definately feels like milk on the palate. Has a sweet fruity taste including plums, prunes, and fig. This brew is more sweet than most porters. I have got to say that this is one good porter. I enjoyed this bad boy more as it got warmer.
Thanks to Landseer for this 2nd tasting!
Re-rate: Aroma is chocolate, coffee, nuts, carmel, and some cherry. All the aromas are in proportion to each other with none dominating. The cherry is slight however. Flavor is chocolate, nutty, carmel, and has a velvet milk texture. Pigfoot (2268) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - SEP 21, 2004
A definitive ebony hue. Good, crackling tan head. As Fred Eckhart recommends, put this one to your ear and listen! Aroma is a blast of espresso, cocoa, anise and molasses. Rich and roasted, with loads of bitterness on the palate and a tenacious finish. Complex, if a bit gritty. Not a brew for novices or girly-men, this is stiff and substantial stuff. Label says best before August 2O1O, but who could wait that long? Unfortunately, the brewery has become bereft of their senses and is discontinuing this classic, so grab one if you can.

Dark brown almost black colour with a thick tan lacy head. Nose of dark fruits, dark chocolate, wood and hints of madeira wine. roasty sweety and nutty taste. GypsyHead (35) - California, USA - OCT 27, 2011
Well rounded porter with more dark fruit notes than I expected. Nice medium body, though not as full a head nor as much lacing. Fantastic aroma, rich and malty ads135 (4607) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - APR 21, 2012
Had this beer on a few occassions, always bottled. Bought the first one in Warrensburg MO is was blown away by the typically Baltic nature of this porter. A surprising amount of hops, a smooth body, rich with coffee and chocolate. One of my favorites. dankfor20 (193) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JUL 1, 2002
had the 2000 version and it was very good. it was quite dark with a strong roast aroma. very smooth and a little sweet goin down. well done iwantalambic (1478) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - DEC 7, 2002
Underrated beer in my opinion. . .wonderfully full fruity aroma. Nicely roasted, creamy with some sweet syrup (melted caramel or maple), balanced with bitter notes and some coffee. I really enjoyed this one!
